Students Reporting Security Concerns “See Something, Say Something” And Don’t Repost It Report it – Encourage students to report security concerns to a trusted adult (parent, school staff member, school administrator, SRO, or a local law enforcement agency). Students may also anonymously report concerns using the Safe Schools Maryland Tip Line at 833-MD-B-SAFE or their website or here. In an emergency, call 911. MHS Attendance Process For Early Dismissal To request a student’s early dismissal, please adhere to the following process:

Please include the following information in emails/notes: -Student’s name -Parent/Guardian’s name & phone number -Reason for early dismissal
If at all possible, please send an email or note rather than calling the Front Office to request early dismissal. Emails and notes allow for a more efficient process with fewer classroom interruptions.
For your convenience, as long as proper documentation/communication has already been received, parents/guardians are not required to enter the school building to pick up students for early dismissal.
Algebra 1, Geometry, and MCAP Review Tutoring Schedule Tuesdays and Thursdays Students currently enrolled in Algebra 1, Geometry, or reviewing for the Algebra 1 MCAP can attend in order to receive individualized tutoring. Students are not required to sign up for tutoring ahead of time.
English Tutoring Schedule Mondays and Thursdays Dr. Flagg will have after school English tutoring in Room 517 on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:30. All students who need help with their English classes for general homework assistance or who want to prepare for the MCAP are invited to attend. Advance sign up by sending a Schoology message to Dr. Flagg or dropping by during KQ (Room 517) is appreciated but not required.
Writing Workshop Tutoring Opportunities Drop in and consult with Ms. Loughry for some extra assistance with any writing assignment. All students are welcome; no appointment necessary! Please report to Room 507 from 2:20 PM - 3:05 PM on the following dates:

2024 Support Employee Of The Year Esther Snyder, Food Service Worker Congratulations to Esther Snyder, MHS food service worker! Esther was the 2024 Employee of the Year in the category of school-based food service. This award celebrates employees who exemplify service and excellence to the FCPS community. Esther is one of 7 FCPS award-winners for the 2024 Support Employee of the Year program. Esther was also a 2023 winner. Great job, Esther!

Minority Scholars Program Conference Representative Ava Gordon Congratulations to MHS senior, Ava Gordon, who was selected as the MHS representative at the Minority Scholars Program Conference. The conference will take place at John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring. This is the second year in a row that Ava will be representing MHS! Ava is excited to represent not only MHS, but also students of color who are motivated leaders. Great job, Ava!

Ronald Reagan Leadership Medal Applications Due By Wednesday, March 27 This prestigious award is presented to high school juniors and/or seniors who best exemplify the following characteristics: Drive, Humility, and Service Before Self. Every high school in America may nominate one junior and/or one senior student for a Ronald Reagan Leadership Medal. This award allows schools to recognize outstanding high school students whose drive, integrity, and citizenship qualities are emblematic of our nation's 40th President. Each nominated student will receive an exclusive medallion and a letter of recognition from Dr. Richard Schroeder, Chief Education Program Officer of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. Awards will be mailed to school administrators during the month of April, in time to be presented at a culmination ceremony, award reception, or graduation.

Summer 2025 trip to Japan
Attention Juniors: School-Day SAT on Wednesday, March 20 All 11th-grade students will take the School-Day SAT on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. This exam is paid for by FCPS and is required for all Juniors. All 11th-grade students will be automatically registered for the School-Day SAT, therefore, no action is required by students or parents/guardians.

Maryland State Seal Of Biliteracy Do you speak a language other than English at home? Consider applying for the Seal of Biliteracy. It is a state award granted to students who pass English 10 and receive an Intermediate High score on the Avant Stamp 4S test (offer 13 different language test) or receive a 4 or higher on an AP test. This is an excellent opportunity to be recognized for your language abilities. All seniors must have their application and test scores turned in to Mrs. Boyll by Friday, April 5.
