Message From The Principal
Hello MHS Parents and Families, This week, in addition to our Cohort A students, we were able to welcome our students in Cohort B back into the building. Our students have been very cooperative in utilizing the safety measures that we have asked them to observe and that we have put in place. We hope that as the school year continues they help us stay vigilant so that we can make hybrid work for our staff and our community. We're counting on our students to help keep themselves and all at MHS safe. Thanks for all you are doing to help us adjust to our new schedule. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
I also want to take this opportunity to remind all that February is Black African-American History Month. Throughout the month our teachers have been encouraged to incorporate appropriate curriculum-related content in classroom lessons and activities. Recently , I had read a message from Project Wisdom that expands on why we set aside time during the year to study these accomplishments and contributions. It reads, Have you wondered why you have to study history? Here’s why: When we examine history, we’re given an opportunity to learn from the past and not repeat its mistakes. We learn to appreciate the struggles and accomplishments of others . . . others who are oftentimes very different from ourselves. We gain inspiration from those who have excelled and determination from those who have overcome. Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the Father of Black History Month, says, “Those who have no record of what their forebears have accomplished lose the inspiration which comes from the teaching of biography and history.” This month, as we celebrate the accomplishments of many great Black African Americans, make a special effort to learn from the lives of these individuals. Try to connect a piece of your life with their courage, perseverance, and wisdom. Let their biographies inspire you as you make the choices that will ultimately create your own biography.
Thank you and have a great weekend.
Sincerely, Bernie Quesada Principal

MHS And Creative Children's Center Partnership MHS has established a partnership with Creative Children’s Center (CCC), giving our students an exceptional opportunity to extend their classroom experience. The students can earn the 135-hour State of MD Child Care Training Certificate by completing three Child Development courses and meeting specified requirements at MHS. The school experience with the Knee High Knights is also a reality lesson to help prepare students for the workplace. Our internship students, past and present have had valuable experiences to help them define their future of working with children through CCC. Some of our students attended CCC as a child; it is a rewarding experience for them to give back to their community and return to the CCC in this capacity.
