From the Principal: Congratulations on a successful first week back to school! Staff, students, and parents collaborated in a partnership that allowed students to navigate their first virtual learning week, and our Return to Play meant athletes had the opportunity to condition and train together again. While there was much to celebrate this week, there were a couple of concerns. I’d like to remind our students that behavior expectations in their Google Meet classes are not different to our expectations when we are together in a classroom in the building:
Be present, be awake, and be ready to learn
Do not invite non-LHS participants into your classes; this is a class disruption and a security concern
Clothing, behavior and speech need to be respectful of the class
Use of alcohol, tobacco, drug, and vape products is prohibited
The possession of weapons is prohibited
Students should look for more information about expectations in their Student Handbook, available on our LHS School Website and through their PREP classes in Schoology. The administrative team will be sharing an expectations presentation with students next week during PREP, as well. As a reminder, attendance at PREP is a daily expectation, as students will continue to check in with their PREP teachers, receive important school information, and work on social-emotional learning. Finally, I am pleased to share with you the first of a series of Lancer Live TV productions from members of the School Improvement Team about our LHS Keys to Success in Virtual Learning.
Enjoy the long weekend.
With Lancer Pride,
Cindy Hanlon

Reminder: Google Parent Permission Form Due By Tuesday, September 8 Frederick County Public Schools staff is providing live virtual instruction as an important part of the Full Virtual Model of instruction. In the event that students are unable to attend live virtual instruction via Google Meet, these sessions or parts of these sessions will be video and audio recorded. The recorded session will be available for students who would like to review that content and instruction. We are balancing student privacy and the need for flexibility during this unprecedented pandemic.
The Frederick County Public Schools Parent Guide to Google Meet Recordings, Student Privacy and Security sent via a system Find Out First (FOF) message this morning provides an overview of how the Google Meet recordings will be used and the methods used to ensure student privacy and security.
Please review this Parent Guide to help understand how Google Meet recordings will be used in instruction and the security safeguards in place to protect student privacy.
Parent permission is required for teachers to record your student in the Google Meets. Teachers may begin recording beginning the week of September 8, 2020. Parents have two ways to let schools know whether or not their student has permission to be recorded in Google Meets.
Option #1: Complete the Google Form that can be filled out and submitted online provided by Linganore High School. Option #2: Download the PDF Form that can be filled out, signed, and returned to the office, or scanned and emailed to Kirstin.Reggio@fcps.org by Tuesday, September 8, 2020.
Students without permission will be asked to turn off their cameras and audio during the recorded portion of the lesson. Our goal is to get this additional resource online and available to students as soon as possible.
Reminder: Student Information Cards now online as Power School Registration: (Returning Student Registration)
Parents/guardians received an email on Monday, August 24 from PowerSchool Registration, our secure online student enrollment system. The email provided instructions on how to use the secure online portal to update student information for the coming school year. PowerSchool Registration (Returning Student Registration) will replace the paper Student Information Cards of the past. In addition, we will request parent/guardian contact, transportation and health information along with responses to Agreements, such as Media Exposure and Terms of Use information, be entered in the portal.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Reggio at Kirstin.Reggio@fcps.org. Student Information Cards - Find Out First Email Address Parents/guardians please pay close attention to clearly updating the email address on this year's online Returning Student Registration Information Form. Your entry generates your students school and grade-level associations in Find Out First (FOF). The emails roll over automatically each July, so you do not need to update your school/grade-level selections. Parents/guardians only need to provide the school any email address change.
P.S. It's easy to view district-level and school-based FOF notices and newsletters. Without logging in or even having an account, go to www.fcps.org/fof: 1) Use the drop-down menu at the very bottom to select your school of interest 2) Use the Menu icon at the top left to choose Notices or Newsletters (or Archives for district-level messages)
