Happy Holidays!
OMS students and staff had an eventful November. The first Annual Color Run was a huge success, as was our first Honors Convocation. This month we host our Holiday Store. Monday through Thursday, Dec. 12-15, students are able to purchase gifts for money. On Friday, Dec. 16 students may use OMS Wings. On Dec. 16, our wonderful PTSA will also offer free gift wrapping to students. The proceeds collected will be divided among three places: Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Monocacy Valley Church and the OMS Student Activity Fund. The two local churches have directly supported OMS and the Student Activity fund supports School Culture activities such as the Color Run, Holiday Store, OMS Bowl, and OMS Carnival.
All of us at OMS wish you a safe, relaxing holiday season.
Cars picking students up during dismissal must use the designated carpool line. The car at the front of the line should pull all the way forward to the neon yellow sign labelled "Drop Off / Pick Up", which is beyond the front doors of the school. Please leave no gaps in the line. Cars must be attended at all times.
By having cars pull forward, we hope to alleviate traffic congestion on Oakdale School Road. If the line does extend into the road, please do not block oncoming traffic -- especially our school buses.
If you are parking your car to sign your child out before our normal dismissal, be sure not to park where the carpool line will block you in! You'll need to park in a row away from the building.
Having all cars line up in this designated line allows for students to travel to their cars on the side walk. Students are not permitted to meet parents out in the parking lot, as this slows the flow of traffic and could be unsafe.
Thank you for assisting in keeping all our students safe during the busy dismissal!
As winter weather sets in, please make sure students leave home prepared for the weather. Special circumstances such as bus delays could require students to be outside more than they would normally anticipate.
‘Tis the season for tweens and teens to be tempted to use social media in ways that are not necessarily the most positive. Please try to monitor your child’s text messages, Snapchat, Instragram, and other accounts regularly. Having frequent, open communication about proper usage is highly encouraged. Parents, consider starting your own Snapchat and Instragram accounts... It’s always a good time to learn to navigate technology!
Term 2 Midterm was Friday, December 9th. Interim Progress Reports will be sent home on Monday, December 19th. Don't forget that you can monitor your child's progress at any time through FCPS Grades Online - Home Access Center (HAC), or using our recently introduced app for iOS and Android (see details below). If you do not know your HAC password, please contact Ms. Harden at lynn.harden@fcps.org or 240 236-5503.
FCPS presents the new eSchoolPLUS Family Mobile App available for iOS and Android mobile devices!
Parents and students can now view your school's Home Access Center and receive notifications from your mobile devices.
Use the app to help you monitor:

Dear Parents, If you have moved, changed your phone number, have a new email address or need to change your emergency contact, please contact Ms. Harden at 240-236-5503, or you can email the new information with a copy of the new proof of residence to lynn.harden@fcps.org. It is imperative that we have your information updated in case of emergency or for any mailings. Thank you.
Please urge your child to check lost and found in the cafeteria or in each of their classes for their items. We hold many smaller items such as jewelry, phones, and eyewear in the front office. Parents and guardians are welcome to stop in to check the lost and found, as well. Unclaimed items will be donated to a local charity at the end of each term.
