National Wear Red Day
National Wear Red Day is on Friday, February 7, 2020. It isn’t just about wearing red for one day, this day is to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women.
Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. Symptoms of heart attack and stroke present differently in women, so don’t ignore the signals that your body may be sending to alert you.
Know Your Risk, Know Your Numbers
You can’t manage what you don’t measure, which is why knowing your risk is critical to preventing cardiovascular disease. And knowing your risk starts with knowing your numbers. Five numbers, that all women should know to take control of their heart health are:
Schedule an appointment with your primary care provider to understand your risks factors and take action.
Deals4U, an employee discount program especially for Frederick County Public Schools employees and retirees, provides online access to discounts and deals on products and services from national, regional and local merchants. (Think Target, Peapod, Regal Theatres, HP and more!) The Web-based program is administered by PerkSpot, a company that manages employee discount programs for a wide range of business and organizations across the country.
To take advantage of Deals4U, simply create an online account at deals4u.perkspot.com using your personal (not work) e-mail address. Then enter FCPS (if prompted for a code), and create and enter a password. You will then receive confirmation and log-in instructions. After logging in you have access to all the discount offers available to FCPS employees. (If you log in to Deals4U from your work computer, access to some vendors may be restricted for internet security reasons.)
Desk to 5k
Have you ever wanted to run a 5k or improve your walking/jogging techniques? Join our Desk to 5k training program!
FCPS Wellness has teamed up with The 2 Health Nuts to provide an 8 week training program that focuses on the power of the group and helping you cross the finish line fit, strong, and injury free!
The Desk to 5k training program focuses on three main components:
The session will begin on Wednesday, April 1st at Baker Park. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:30pm and on Sunday at 1:30pm. The program will be from April 1st to May 27th . Classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday at 4:15pm and on Sunday at 1:30pm.
Classes will be approximately 60 minutes long. On Monday and Wednesday, we will focus on strength training and intervals. On Sunday, we will focus on distance walk. Stretching and flexibility will be incorporated in each class. This program is appropriate for all fitness levels!

Run Farther Run Faster
Who doesn’t want to out-perform their 5k, 10k, and etc. times? 2 Health Nuts has created the perfect running program to help YOU achieve your new Personal Record!
If you love to run or have completed the FCPS Desk to 5K program (with a walk and jog approach), this is the program for you. Lace up your kicks and get ready to strength train, and experience running strategies that are designed to keep you on your toes while having fun!
