Congratulations to 7th Grader, Charles Millard, for competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. To enjoy watching Charles in the role of BeeTV’s Ron Burgunbee, news anchor, visit www.youtube.com/watch?v=40dJUAaBzzo. Charles appears in many episodes, so check them out! Congratulations on making it so far, Charles!
Congratulations to 7th Grader, Owen Fell, for representing FCCS and FCPS at the MMEA State Wind and Percussion Solo and Ensemble at the Towson University Center for the Arts. Owen received the highest score (one) on trombone. This is a very high honor and an outstanding accomplishment. Great job Owen!
Music in the Parks Festival: Our logic stage musicians took the stage during the Adjudication Festival on May 19 at Six Flags Great America. This was the first time they competed and earned a trophy for their score of Excellent from the adjudicators. Ms. Fell stated, "We are so proud of their hard work and dedication to excellence in music." Well done scholars! For more information about the festival, check out: http://www.musicintheparks.com/.
FCCS Spring Ensembles Concert featuring our logic stage musicians included 5th Grade music, the Middle School Chorus, and the FCCS Band took place on Tuesday, May 22. These scholar musicians did an amazing job under the direction of Ms. Fell and Mr. Pastena. If you missed it, check out the Announcements section below for more information.
FCCS Grammar School Concert featuring our K-4 grade students was flooded out but was held during the school day on Thursday, May 24. The theme was Celebrating America, Past & Present and our grammar stage students inspired all that were in attendance. Thank you to Ms. Fell and our young scholars for a job well done. Thank you to Sra. Sapio, Ms. Shelby Strasser and Mr. Hanna for your assistance in making this event happen.
Our FCCS Field Day was a great success and we appreciate all of the hard work Mr. Bickel, Mr. Dellavalle (Ms. Smith's substitute), the FCCS staff, and volunteer parents put in to make this a fun and enjoyable physical education event! Thank you for making this a memorable experience.
First Grade Plays: Our first grade students performed three stories from Aesop's Fables for parents and students last week. It was a delightful performance and the students did a great job. A big thank you to Ms. Beverage who organized the play. She was assisted by Ms. Strasser, Art, Ms. Strasser, Instructional Assistant, the Specialists Team, Ms. Folden and Ms. Wiedeman. We're looking forward to seeing them in the FCCS Theater Group in a few years.
The FCCS Awards night has been rescheduled to Monday, June 11 at 6:30 pm at Governor Thomas Johnson High School. Everyone is invited to attend to celebrate the accomplishments of our scholars this year. An invitation has been sent home with those scholars who will be recognized at the event [This new date recently became available. Space for evening school events is tight at the end of the school year (especially with uncooperative weather) and we appreciate the flexibility and support from our FCCS families].
New student enrollment forms should be submitted to the front office as soon as possible for students starting in the fall.
If your child will not be returning to FCCS for the 2018-2019 school year, please inform the front office immediately. Please fill out a withdrawal form to ensure that the withdrawal/transfer process is completed accurately and to provide important information to our school.
Update your Contact Information: If your contact information has recently changed and you have not already informed the school, please report your new information to Ms. Ehrlich in the office as soon as possible.
Reading is Fundamental recently visited FCCS to read with 2nd grade scholars and share the joy in reading. The organization donated over 1000 books to our scholars. We are grateful for the financial support provided to this organization to promote literacy and engage America’s youth to develop a passion for reading! To learn more about this organization or to donate to the cause, visit https://www.rif.org/about-rif. Thank you RIF!
School supply lists will be sent home during our summer mailing in late June and will be posted at http://frederickclassicalcharterschool.org/virtualbackpack/
Transitioning to High School Event on Thursday, June 7 at 7pm All Logic School (Grades 5-8) Families (especially 8th grade) are invited to FCCS to participate in a panel discussion about life after FCCS. FCCS Alumni will be joining us to share their experience. Guidance counselors and high school representatives will be onsite to answer any questions. Please let us know that you are planning on attending by registering at https://tinyurl.com/y97a4tau or emailing academics@frederickclassicalcharterschool.org. See flyer for details.
Concert DVDs available at the front desk - There are a few DVDs of recent FCCS concerts available in the front office to borrow for up to two nights. Library News: The library is now open for returns only. Classes will continue to come in during their regularly scheduled time. Fine notices will be sent out in June. Please check your house, car, backpack and for books belonging to FCCS. If you believe you have lost a book, contact the library at library@frederickclassicalcharterschool.org to arrange a replacement or reimbursement to the library. If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, there are a few ways to rectify the situation. You can pay the fine listed on the notice, buy a copy of the book yourself and send in with your scholar, or contact the front office about a financial situation if necessary. If you checked out Wonder or Auggie & Me, please return ASAP. All books are now due.
Reading is Fundamental made a generous book donation to our scholars. Please consider sending a thank you note, email, message, tweet, or post to RIF for this gift. Each class will have time to visit the library to allow scholars to choose books for their keeping (second grade has already received their books). For the parents of 8th graders only, a letter was sent home with your student regarding the selection of books from RIF - please send in your response ASAP in order for your child to receive books.
The End of Year Picnic will be held on Friday June 8 at 3:30pm - The Social Committee is seeking volunteers to assist in planning and hosting this event. Please contact Nanci Jacobo at social@frederickclassicalcharterschool.org.
Yearbooks will be arriving soon! If you did not pre-order a yearbook, a few will be available for purchase on first-come first-serve basis. Please email yearbook@frederickclassicalcharterschool.org for more information about purchasing a yearbook before the school year is out.
Hershey Park Trip: The 8th Grade trip is on June 14 and the students who are attending will be leaving FCCS at 7:30 am and returning at approximately 9:00 pm. Students will not be visiting the water park portion of the park.
FCPS Food and Nutrition Services: The automatic payment feature in My School Bucks has been disabled for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year. Parents: This means that if your child's balance gets below your specified amount, the student meal account will not automatically replenish. You will need to go online to add funds to your My School Bucks account or send a check to the school. We are sorry for any inconvenience. If you have questions, please call 301-644-5061.
