School Safety Information - Several questions regarding school safety were brought up at the State of the School meeting. All Frederick County schools collaborate with local, state and federal health, safety and emergency personnel. We do not share all of our safety procedures with the public in order to protect them from compromise. However, we understand the concern of our parents who want to know that safety of our students is our primary focus. All schools, including FCCS, have a student safety plan and crisis management team that have been trained for crisis situations - see /centraloffice/security-emergency-management for more information.
FCPS is hosting two upcoming school safety presentations that are open to the public and we encourage our FCCS parents to attend. Learn about school safety planning and how you can help keep students safe! Part 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16 from 6-8 PM at Catoctin High Auditorium. http://ow.ly/Bqtx30j27ml.

April is recognized nationally as Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to make communities more aware of child abuse and neglect so we can move to prevention. The color for the month is blue-the color of a child’s bruises-to remind us all that child abuse needs to stop! Child abuse is entirely preventable but only when the community comes together and promotes zero tolerance. Here in Frederick County, there are many opportunities for the community to promote and participate in Child Abuse Prevention activities that highlight awareness, prevention, and education. Friends of the Child Advocacy Center will be participating in many events over the course of April. More information can be found on their website: http://cacfriends.net/events/april-activities-are-announced/.

You may know that it’s important to recycle, but do you really know how to recycle? That’s the question being asked of local students in the “Recycle Right!” Activity Book Contest conducted by the Frederick County Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM). The program, open to all local K-12 students, invites participants to learn more about the recycling process, then use their knowledge – and their creativity – to help educate our community about the importance of recycling the right materials in the right way. We are seeking student work that can be used to create an educational activity booklet. Selected work will be published and distributed at community events, in schools and through DSWM programs. As part of this project, we'll award $1,000 in prizes to local students and schools! Deadline April 6th. http://www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/RecycleContest
