CASS
Greetings! I am David Humphries, LCSW-C and I am a CASS Coordinator/Social Worker. Prior to working for FCPS I was employed by the Frederick County Health Department. Here, I provided mental health therapy to children, teens, adults and families. I also provided clinical supervision to staff and led the Child and Adolescent Team. In addition, I participated in local projects that promoted prevention, awareness and treatment of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). This included giving presentation on ACEs to local community groups and organizations.
CASS is short for Community Agency School Services (CASS). CASS promotes school success by providing support services to student’s experiencing social, emotional or academic challenges. We facilitate collaboration between schools, agencies, communities and families. The goal of these collaborations is to improve communication and enhance access to services that support students and their families.
As a CASS Coordinator, I provide consultation for school staff to a number of Elementary schools and High Schools. At the middle school level, I provide direct services to Crestwood, Ballenger Creek, and Urbana middle schools.
CASS developed and now manages Mental Health partnerships between FCPS and local Mental Health providers. This partnership enables students to access mental health services by allowing for “on-site” counseling at the student’s school with the partner agency’s staff.
In addition to the Mental Health Partnership we connect to community based therapy and psychiatric services, substance use services, academic support, health service, after school programs, and mentors.
I look forward to supporting your student’s success! If you think these services, may benefit your student then please contact me.
Sincerely,
David Humphries

Please notify the staff in the health room if your child develops a contagious condition, such as chickenpox, strep throat, lice, pink eye, mono, pneumonia, etc.
Now that the cold and flu season is here, please remind your child to practice good hygiene. Hand washing and tissues are excellent barriers and deterrents. Please keep your child home from school if he/she is ill and/or has a fever. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s illness, please call your health care provider.
As an employee of the Frederick County Health Department, the Registered Nurse follows CDC guidelines to investigate and to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. She tracks student illness by monitoring absenteeism, noting the number of student visits and symptoms of illness seen in the health room, and gathering information from families and staff.
