1. ADVANCED PLACEMENT TESTING: Subject tests each day starting Monday, May 7 and ending Friday, May 18.
2. PARCC testing rosters with testing room locations and times will be posted on bulletin board across from the Counseling Center in the near future.
3. Previous Nonpassers retake Government HSA: May 7, May 8, or May 9. (Student have received notification of assigned time.)
4. Algebra II PARCC: May 14 and May 15 (Bring Calculator)
5. English 10 PARCC: May 17 and May 18 (Bring Earbuds/Headphones)

The National Honor Society is excited to present the 20th Annual Mr. Middletown pageant this evening starting at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5.00. Entrance to the show is only through the front lobby starting at 6:00 p.m. Auditorium doors will not be open until rehearsals have been completed.
This year, the contestants have chosen the Fordham Lee Poffenbarger Memorial Fund as its charity cause. We are encouraging anyone who attends to make a donation upon entrance into the show.
We look forward to a show of excitement, laughter and memorable moments. See you there!
Key Club Relay for Life Car Wash
The Key Club Car Wash on tomorrow, Saturday, May 5th is at the Exxon from 10-2. Donations made at the Car Wash will support the Key Club Relay for Life Team.

The Relay for Life event is Friday, May 11 - Saturday, May 12. We have a team of 38 students participating and our team goal is to raise $5000 for The American Cancer Society.

Prom 2018: Are You Attending?
MHS Starry Night Prom is on Friday, May 11th at the Myersville Banquet and Event Center from 8-11pm.
Tickets are on sale from Friday, May 4th through Thursday, May 10th during all lunch shifts. NO tickets will be sold on Friday, May 11th.

Tuxedo Pick-Up
Students who participated in the tux fundraiser with M. Stein and Company should pick up their tuxedos after school on Wednesday, May 9 in the front lobby near the Heritage Room. All tuxedos must be returned before school on Monday, May 14 at the front of the building. Thanks to all who participated! You helped support the MHS music programs!
An Evening of Jazz
Enjoy an EVENING OF JAZZ at the "Knight" Club on Saturday, May 19 at 7 pm at Middletown High School. Come see the MHS Jazz Ensemble perform along with the MHS Dance Line. The cafeteria is transformed into a nightclub atmosphere and light hors-d'oeuvres are served along with soda, water, and coffee. There is Silent Auction with proceeds to benefit the entire music program at MHS. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased online or at the door. Don't miss this entertaining annual event!

Student Volunteer Hours @ Green Fest
Attention students who need SSL hours. For ten years, MHS students have been volunteering their time to run the Kid Zone as well as other areas at the Boonsboro Green Fest. The 10th Anniversary of the festival is Saturday, May 19th from 10 am to 5 pm. There are only 37 Middletown High School yearbooks left!
Partial Lockdown Drill
Tuesday morning, Middletown High School was placed in a partial lockdown drill to prevent students from coming in contact with the police canine unit as they conducted a random search of the parking lots.
Such random checks are aligned with the Drug Suppression, and Discovery Program developed by the Board of Education and local law enforcement authorities to curtail the use of drugs in the county secondary schools. We appreciate the cooperation of students and staff during this morning's drill and inspection.
MHS Senior Receives Youth Excellence Award
Congratulations to senior Nabila Prasetiawan who is the Middletown High School recipient of the Henry L Templeton Youth Excellence Award. Nabila was one of ten other Frederick County High School students who received recognition at the Celebration of Human Rights Achievement in Frederick County banquet on Wednesday, April 25 by the Human Relations Commission.

Maryland State SkillsUSA Contest Winners
The 2018 Maryland State SkillsUSA contests were held on April 13th and 14th. Congratulations to all of the MHS winners:
All first place Gold medal winners have earned the right to represent Maryland and compete in the SkillsUSA National Competition (Louisville, KY) in late June.
35th Annual CTC Exemplary Achievement & Academic Excellence Awards Program The 35th Annual CTC Exemplary Achievement & Academic Excellence Awards Program was held on May 1. Congratulations to all of the MHS students who were recognized.
"Recycle Right!" Activity Book Contest Winners
Congratulations to Ananth Nair (9th grade) and Taro Sharkey (10th grade) for receiving awards for their entries in the 2018 “Recycle Right!” Activity Book Contest hosted by the Frederick County Department of Solid Waste Management. The two coloring pages will be printed in the "Recycle Right" Activity Book.

Election Judge Opportunity
If you are interested in serving as an election judge in the upcoming Gubernatorial Elections and are age 16 and above and a registered voter (in Maryland, you may register at age 16, but cannot vote unless you will be age 18 by the next general election), you may be able to help at a designated polling place in Frederick County. The dates of the election are Tuesday, June 26 and Tuesday, November 6. You will be paid at least $150 for working on Election Day, as well as an additional amount for attending a training session prior to the election. The training session will be no longer than three hours. You will be asked to assist in the set-up of the polling location which will take place on Monday evening prior to Election Day, and you will be required to work on Election Day from 6 am until approximately 9 pm. Your contact information will be provided to the Chief Judges assigned to the same polling place so that they can coordinate information regarding Monday set-up and even food arrangements for Election Day. You will not be permitted to leave the premises of the polling place while you are serving as an Election Judge.

Healthroom News
1. Frederick County Health Department /Frederick County Public Schools: End of Year Medication Pick-Up
ATTENTION PARENTS/ GUARDIANS: School is scheduled to close June 15, 2018. Students are not permitted to take their medications home at the end of the school year (FCPS Regulation 400-23). An adult must pick up all medications currently in the health room by the end of the school day on June 15, 2018.
**Medication remaining in the health room will be destroyed on June 15th by 12:30 pm ** 2. PREPARING FOR THE 2018-19 SCHOOL YEAR: Medication/Treatment Orders from your Health Care Provider
The appropriate medication/treatment authorization form(s) must be renewed at the beginning of each school year. Forms are available online at www.fcps.org or at your child’s school.
Please be aware of the expiration date on the pharmacy label when bringing the medication to the health room with the new authorization form. School health staff will determine medication expiration by the date printed on the pharmacy label. Note EpiPens, Diastat, Glucagon, and inhalers have an expiration date printed on the container in addition to the pharmacy label. Therefore the container expiration date must be equal to or exceed the expiration date on the pharmacy label. Please check the label before leaving the pharmacy.
To ensure your child’s medication needs can be met at the start of the school year, submit all completed forms and medications to the health room during the week of August 27, 2018 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. School health staff will review these items for completeness and discuss any issues at this time. Please do not send your child to school with medications. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to arrange for the safe delivery of medication to the school health room, and the parent/guardian must bring medications and forms directly to School Health Staff per (FCPS reg 400-23).

Seniors
GRADUATION INFORMATION:
Class Photo: Any senior wishing to order the casual "18 class photo should bring a $12 check payable to Lifetouch to Mrs. Boyll in Portable 2. Pictures will be taken at our first graduation practice.
Lunch Accounts: Seniors must start clearing out their lunch accounts! Seniors having $25.00 or less on an account, can fill out a form in the cafeteria to be refunded the money directly. If an account is over 25.00, a parent will be issued the money. Account balances can be transferred to sibling accounts.
Baccalaureate Information: The Senior Baccalaureate Service will be held on Sunday, May 27th at 7 pm in the MHS auditorium. Seniors are to arrive at 6:30 in their graduations gowns (no cap). Any senior interested in participating should email 2018mhsbaccalaureate@gmail.com. See this flyer for more details.
Required Senior Survey: All seniors are required to complete the senior survey available on Naviance no later than the last day for seniors, which is Tuesday, May 22.

Media Center
The MHS media center's online catalog, LS2PAC, is a great way for students to search and place holds on books. Students can log in using their FCPS GAFE account.
The media center's webpage also contains a wide range of databases and other digital resources available for student use in research or personal curiosity. To access the login information for each database, students may refer to the "Database Passwords" Google Doc located under the title "Database Subscriptions" on the grid.
Audio Books and eBooks
Is your student looking to listen to an audiobook or download an eBook? Axis360 is a resource provided by FCPS that contains eBooks and audiobooks available for check out on all digital devices. Both fiction and nonfiction titles are added regularly.
