MHS Monthly Student Attendance Rate: In the state of Maryland, for a student to earn satisfactory attendance (S), the student must have a 95% attendance rate which means the student must not be absent from school more than nine (9) days in a school year. For a student to earn excellent attendance (E), the student must have a 96% attendance rate which means the student must not be absent from school more than seven (7) days in a school year. As you can see, our attendance rate has dropped significantly since the start of the school year. We all know there is a correlation between academics and attendance. Let's all encourage our students to attend school on time and regularly.
Below is the student attendance rate at MHS for the last six (6) months.
Sept- 96.5% (E)
Oct- 96.3% (E)
Nov- 95.3% (S)
Dec- 93.5%
Jan- 94.2%
Feb- 93.6%
March- 93.85%
The current overall attendance rate for the 2017-2018 school year is 94.90%

School Security
Parents and Families:
The number one priority for the staff and administration is to provide a safe learning environment for all students. The staff and administration have reviewed security guidelines and protocols for various emergencies which and those protocols have been practiced throughout the school year. One of the most critical practices in ensuring school safety is monitoring and managing building accessibility. MHS has aligned building access procedures to the FCPS Regulation 200-29: School Security and Facility Access https://apps.fcps.org/legal/doc.php?number=200-29. Building access requirements have been communicated to students and staff, and we have seen an improvement in adherence to those requirements. That being said, there have been a few instances where we have found students propping or opening exterior doors to allow others unauthorized access to the building. Providing access to our school through entrances other than the front office is a significant security risk and a violation of school policy. We ask that you talk with your son or daughter about the importance of not opening exterior doors for anyone at any time. We have posted signs on both sides of the exterior doors reminding students that they are prohibited from allowing anyone entry into the building through an exterior. Students who prop open doors or allow others unauthorized access to the building will be issued a referral and may receive additional consequences. Below is an explanation of our visitor/student entrance protocol.
Visitors/Students must gain access to the school through the main entrance at the front of the school. Entering the building through other points of access is prohibited.
Procedures for entering the main entrance:
1. When approaching the front door, at the left of the door is an intercom and camera.
2. Stand in front of the camera and press and hold down the button on the intercom. State your name and the purpose of your visit.
4. A staff member will respond to your request through the intercom and will unlock the door for you to enter the building and report to the office.
We need your help and cooperation for our system to work effectively. The office staff's priority is to provide efficient and friendly service. They can better serve you if you identify yourself, your child’s name, and the reason for the visit when you press the intercom. Thank you for your support in our efforts to maintain a safe and secure school campus. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact any of the administrators.
