Events, information to keep you informed, and school highlights
Dear Families and Students:
After each term and semester, we as a staff review various data points to assess our overall performance as a school and we use data to drive our decisions for improving the learning experience and opportunities for students. One data point we review each month and at the end of each term is the student attendance rate because research has shown that school attendance has a dramatic impact on student achievement. We recently learned that the attendance rate for Middletown High students during the months of September and October was 96% which the State of Maryland considers exemplary attendance! In recognition of this significant accomplishment, ALL students received a token of appreciation treat with an inspirational message from the MHS staff on Thursday. We hope that our trend of excellent attendance will continue throughout the year.
Other data points we review as part of the school improvement process are the results from the annual perceptual survey. As a school and a system we value the feedback we receive from families, students, and staff on the perceptual survey. Survey feedback helps us identify areas of strength and areas in need of improvement in terms of the educational and extracurricular program offerings and experience, as well as school management, and health and safety. On November 6, FCPS launched its annual school perceptual survey. On Tuesday, November 7, a letter was sent home with all students during KnightsQuest explaining the survey. The letter includes a link for parents and guardians to access and complete the online survey. The link is https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HHKVVZR and the specific password for MHS is 0313 (each school as a specific survey link and password). A limited number of paper copies of the survey are available in the front office if needed. In the coming days, students and staff will be provided with a unique survey link and password in order to participate in the survey. Finally, consider joining me for coffee and a conversation on Wednesday, November 29 from 9 am-10 am. I look forward to hearing your ideas. Please use the following link to RSVP so that I can plan accordingly. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/12jz8YOEMId-hsyWe94W4N-L5qGWCB8-qd_pMuiXwTB0/edit
We value your feedback as we continue our efforts to make improvements as a partner in your child's education.
Thank you,
Lee

Keeping You Informed:
Extended Learning Tutoring Information: For students needing additional support in English, Math, and Social Studies, tutoring is offered after school according to the schedule below:
-English: Ms. Clark: T & TH: 2:30 - 3:30 pm -Math: Mr. Frey: T: 2:30 - 3:30 pm and TH: 2:45 - 3:45 pm -Social Studies: Ms. Thompson: T & TH: 2:30 - 3:30 pm
Additional Lunch Line: Starting Monday, November 13th, an additional lunch line will open.
Bus Notes: Students may ride only the school bus to which they are assigned. Inviting friends home via the school bus makes it difficult for schools and bus drivers to account for students and can cause bus capacity problems. In an emergency situation only, school principals may approve a parental request allowing a child to ride another bus. Bus drivers can honor the request only if they receive a parent note that is also signed/approved by the school administration. Transportation to jobs, social meetings, non-school sporting events or practice remains a parental responsibility. At Least 24 hours notice is needed to change the bus a student will ride.
Internship: There will be an informational meeting regarding the Science Internships for next year (2017-2018) for both National Cancer Institute (NCI) and USAMRIID (Army) on Tuesday, November 14th during Knightquest. This will be held in Mrs. Gibson's room - Room 436. Please contact Mrs. Gibson to be requested for this meeting (alisa.gibson@fcps.org) or stop by Room 315 during your lunch to sign up.
