Thanks for supporting MHS! The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has posted the results of the 2016 Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), the Maryland School Assessment, and the High School Assessments on the www.mdreportcard.org website. In addition, each school system prepares and provides reports for individual schools. The MSDE recently released the 2016 Individual School Reports. Along with performance data by grade level, also reported are attendance rate, cohort graduation rate and teacher qualifications. FCPS has added a link to each school's results at each school's online "School Profile," linked in the Schools Directory section at www.fcps.org/schools. Parents/guardians who would like a paper copy may contact your child's school's front office.
Counselors are available throughout the summer, but their hours are limited and varied. If you need to talk with a counselor, please contact the appropriate person.

Regarding needed paper work and other issues, please follow the directions below: Transcripts (seniors-class of 2018): MHS will not send any senior transcripts for college applications until after the initial schedule change period ends (after September 15). All seniors will be trained at the beginning of the school year on how to request transcripts and recommendations for electronic delivery through Naviance Family Connection when the school year starts. Transcripts (2017 graduates): Final transcripts for all graduates have been sent to colleges of their choice. New transcript requests can continue to be made in Naviance for new college or scholarship applications. Transcripts (2016 and older graduates): Requests can be made using this form: https://education.fcps.org/mhs/sites/mhs/files/counseling/Transcript%20Graduate.pdf Contact Sharon Apperson, Registrar, 240-236-7403 with any other transcript requests. Student Schedules: Student schedules reflect the courses for which they registered, and teachers were hired and assigned to fill positions accordingly. Because staffing has already been determined by student course selections, only errors(course sequencing, incomplete schedule, class size, and incorrect level) in a student's schedule will be considered for schedule change requests. We cannot accommodate requests for specific teachers. Counselors will accept requests for schedule changes during the month of July. Enrollments: To schedule an enrollment, please contact the school’s main number at 240-236-7403 and an appointment can be made when the counselor is in the office. Naviance Family Connection: Students should continue to access Naviance Family Connection for college and career research through the summer. Password: (8-digit student ID number) College Applications: Seniors applying to 4-year colleges should begin working on applications once they open. Take note of deadlines and what each school needs by that deadline. Remember that SAT and ACT score reports will need to be ordered from the testing services on their websites. New this summer: Counselors will be available during 2 mornings in August to help support seniors with college applications. The “College Bootcamp” is scheduled for August 1 from 9 – 11 AM and August 8 from 9 – 11 AM. Seniors who start their applications in early August, can request additional meetings with their counselors during the month of August. Students should contact the counselor directly for this opportunity. Recommendations: Seniors applying to 4-year colleges in need of letters of recommendation should identify the counselors and teachers that they will ask for them. Recommenders SHOULD NOT be added to the Common App, because Naviance will link them later. Prior to contacting those recommenders, students should complete the “Recommendation Brag Sheet” survey in Naviance Family Connection. That is found in the “About Me” tab in the top left under “Surveys to take.” Upon completion, students can email the teacher(s) and counselor identified and let them know that they have completed the brag sheet. Enjoy your summer!
