May 1 – 12 - AP Exams Tuesday, May 2 - AG Day Friday, May 12 - 2 hour early dismissal for students Congratulations to MHS teacher Ed Roark! He has been chosen as the CTE Teacher of the Year! Ed has been instrumental in growing our Business Department at Middletown High School. He is a very active Advisor the the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Organization, and chaperones his students at the local and national level (Atlanta, Chicago, Nashville and this year to California.) He also helped his students host last years Regional competitions at MHS. Ed is also an adjunct profession at Frederick Community College teaching the Intro to Business BU103 course. This year he has also been instrumental in modifying the Completer Pathways for the Business Department. MHS Horticulture Spring Plant Sale Saturday, April 29 through May 19! Hours are: Monday - Friday 11:30 - 2:30, Saturday 9-1, and Closed Sundays. We have vegetables, herbs, annuals, perennials and hanging baskets. See our MHS students perform at the FCPS All-County High School Jazz Festival this Saturday, April 29 at Linganore High School. Starting at 3 p.m., there will be special performances by the Middletown and Tuscarora Jazz Ensembles followed by the All-County Jazz Ensemble with Guest Conductor Michael Kamuf at 4 p.m.Tickets, sold at the door (cash only) are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Free for senior citizens ages 60 and above and FCPS employees with ID badge.Ticket sales support the arts in Frederick County public schools. An Evening of Jazz at The "Knight" Club will be held on Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at MHS. Hors D'oeuvres, Desserts, Soft Drinks and Coffee will be served. The number of books printed is based on orders with an additional number added for late sales. But those extra books are nearly gone, and there will be no additional printing of books! Calling All Volunteers! The PTSA is looking for volunteers and donations for the upcoming MHS Staff Appreciation Week, May 8 - May 12. Baccalaureate Performers Needed: The deadline to sign up to perform for Baccalaureate is May 9. Please sign-up on the bulletin board in the cafeteria. Mandatory rehearsal is May 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the auditorium and the Baccalaureate Service is Sunday, May 28 at 7 p.m. This year's theme is acceptance, love and inclusion. Slide Show for Baccalaureate: Seniors and parents, please send up to 5 pictures for the slide show to be presented at Baccalaureate. These can be old or recent pictures of yourself, group pictures with your classmates, artistic photos you have taken, or any major events of your high school years (no formal senior pictures.) Email high quality photos in jpeg format to mhsbacc2017@gmail.com by May 1. Please include your name. You are invited to the Senior Final Art Exhibition on Wednesday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the Main Cup in Middletown! MHS Seniors will present their final body of work in exhibition. Participating seniors are: Rachel Cross, Chrissy David, Damian Dye, Jacob Hoyt, Heather Irvine, Marisa Mirani, John Pressly and Autumn Rourke.
Students taking online courses should contact Mrs. Bator at least a week in advance to schedule proctored tests and exams. All students taking Online Health and PE this term MUST schedule final exams with Mrs. Bator one week in advance of taking it. Students who fail to sign up a week in advance may not be able to take the final exam. Students can email pamela.bator@fcps.org or stop by Room 215. Exams are normally proctored on Mondays and Thursdays.

Athletic News:
Congratulations to Caroline Littrell and Kevin Long for their commitment to athletics, academics and community service. Caroline and Kevin were selected as the female and male 2017 FCCA Scholar Athletes for Middletown High School. Both were honored at the Frederick County Coaches Association Scholar Athlete banquet held on April 25. Middletown Cheerleading will have open gyms starting on May 3. The open gyms will be held on the MHS gym balcony on May 3, 10, 17, and 24 from 4-5:30. Please contact Shannon.schneider@fcps.org or Madison.bigelow@fcps.org if you have any questions. Good luck to MHS Students Sarah Abouassali, Jillian Black, Emma Bloom, Rana Gulen and Alexa Smith who will be participating in the Maryland State National History Day Competition this Saturday at UMBC. Their presentation The Truth About the Bhutto Administration advanced from the Frederick County National History Day Competition in March. They are competing in the Senior Group Documentary Category. Students from all over the state will compete at UMBC this Saturday in Performances, Exhibits, Websites, Documentaries, and Historical Papers. This year’s theme is Taking a Stand. Way to go Girls! Friday, May 26 - 2 hour early dismissal for students Monday, May 29 - Memorial Day - Schools closed The official last school day this year for students who attend Frederick County public schools is Friday, June 9. On that day, FCPS will dismiss students 2 hours early for a teacher work session. This schedule assumes that FCPS will need no further days off for inclement weather or other systemwide emergencies. The school system has used only one of the six snow days built into this year's calendar.
