SENIOR INFORMATION: COLLEGE VISITS, SCHOLARSHIPS AND MORE!
UPCOMING COLLEGE VISITS AT MHS
Seniors and juniors should use their Naviance Account (see link under scholarships below) to sign up for these and other visits and determine the location of the visit, which will be the Main Conference Room, Media Center or the Auditorium during Knights Quest and at 1:15 pm. Please be aware if you sign up for a 1:15 college visit, you are responsible for all missed work. There is a limit as to how many visits a student may sign up for. All sign-ups close 12 hours prior to the visit time. Please see Mrs. Bertulaitis in Counseling if you have questions, have difficulty signing up, or are a sophomore interested in attending a college visit.

To Request Official Transcripts for Scholarships, Athletics or Other Personal Use on Naviance, do the following after logging in:
Enter information as completely as possible. Enter special instructions in the note section, (for example, "Please email transcript to (insert email address)" or "Please include counselor recommendation form"). There will be a $2.00 fee (cash or check payable to MHS) per official transcript prepared, payable when the transcript is picked up. You will be notified when it is ready. Please allow 5 business days for a transcript request.
HOOD COLLEGE FAFSA SEMINAR AND COMPLETION EVENT Saturday, November 19, 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM Join Hood College's financial aid office for a FAFSA Focus Seminar and FAFSA Completion Event. The short seminar will walk you through what the FAFSA is and how to complete it. Filling out the FAFSA is one of the first steps in planning for an affordable college education. The Completion even offers you the opportunity to have your questions about financial aid answered and receive hands-on help filing your FAFSA.

Bridge to FCC Dual Enrollment Event Thursday, December 1, 2022 9-11 am, FCC Conference Center
This event is for all high school seniors who are in or have taken a dual enrollment class through FCC. They will hear from Admissions, Advising, Financial Aid, Student Leadership & Engagement, and current FCC students. Students will go on a campus tour and receive their FCC student ID card. Students may also fill out an application for Fall 2023 at the event. There is limited capacity so register today! SHADOWING FOR THE CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY CENTER (CTC) IS NOW OPEN! The Career and Technology Center (CTC) is part of the Frederick County Public Schools system. With more than 24 programs to choose from, students have the opportunity to gain college and career experience in a variety of areas. They can earn college credits as well as valuable industry certifications and licenses through a CTC program. CTC programs are taught in half-day blocks, and students attend their high school for the other half of the school day. Shadowing a CTC program is the first step in the application process and is open to students in grades 9-11; transportation is provided for the shadow experience. Students may shadow and apply to up to two programs. Students are responsible for work missed while shadowing.

DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES - BIG CHANGE IN THE PROGRAM! FREE TUITION! Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) and Frederick Community College FCC) are pleased to announce that students who participate in dual enrollment courses, including those who are currently enrolled, will no longer be charged the cost of tuition. A recent change in Maryland law (under the Blueprint for Maryland's Future) has resulted in this change in our Dual Enrollment program. To receive a turkey, you must attend in person and show a driver's license (or other form of ID) to prove that you are a Frederick County resident.
JUNIORS: PSAT SCORES RELEASED ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 5 In order to see your scores, you will need to log into, or create, a College Board account. It is preferred that your FCPS email address not be used to create an account; students were told to list a personal email when tanswer sheets were pre-bubbled. FREDERICK COMMUNITY COLLEGE - FCPS EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM 9th and 10th Grade Students! FCC invites 9th and 10th grade students to register for one of the following Early College Information Nights to learn about the FCPS-FCC Early College program:
The FCC Early College program is a way to earn an associate degree and high school diploma simultaneously by attending FCC full-time during your junior and senior years.
FCPS students apply to Early College during their sophomore year.
Members of the Dual Enrollment Team will go through the details of the Early College program and acceptance process, and they will answer questions from interested students and families.

MHS WRITING CENTER: Updated Hours Mondays & Fridays, 2:30 PM - 3:15 PM Middletown High School is pleased to offer an after-school Writing Center with the Literacy Specialist. Students write in many of the content-area classes, not just English. Dr. Flagg will help you brainstorm, organize, and get started with your writing. You can also request help with editing and revising, in order to strengthen high-stakes writing samples. The Writing Center will be open Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30-3:00 pm, but please sign up ahead of time by visiting Dr. Flagg during KQ in Portable 1.

"TUTOR ME" - FREE VIRTUAL TUTORING SERVICES TUTOR ME is a free online tutoring service that provides subject specific tutoring, writing lab feedback for many types of papers, and SAT/ACT preparation for our FCPS students. Best of all, TUTOR ME is available to our students 24/7! Visit https://www.fcps.org/student-services/tutoring for directions on how to access this service. From there, you can see all of the subject areas available to students, as well as other additional information.

ALGEBRA 1 TUTORING Tuesdays and Thursdays Students currently enrolled in Algebra 1 can attend tutoring in order to receive help on assignments and reinforce skills. Students are not required to sign up for Algebra tutoring ahead of time.
ASVAB TEST INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is the most widely used multiple-aptitude test in the world. The ASVAB measures your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for future success. It also provides you with career information for various civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career. The ASVAB is offered to any interested MHS student (grade 10, 11, 12) for free.
The test will be administered on Friday, January 13, 2023 from 8:00 am until approximately 12:00 pm at Frederick High School. Your student is required to make up any missed work from all classes, and must provide their own transportation. Your student is required to come back to MHS after the ASVAB is complete. If you would like for your student to take this test, please register before Friday, January 6, 2023.

Mental Health Resources The Maryland Department of Health released a “Student and Young Adult Resource Guide for Coping During COVID-19”. Click here to see it. It’s a handy, comprehensive guide created for secondary and college students to spotlight issues and find resources on how to help themselves and each other through the continued adjustment to pandemic-created changes. Many of the resources also support elementary students. The FCPS Mental Health Matters page can be found here. Students and family members who are experiencing difficulty may wish to contact the Frederick County Mental Health Association (MHA).
Walk-In Behavioral Health Services The Walk-in Service has resumed seeing clients in person at their office located at 226 South Jefferson Street in Frederick for those who prefer to see someone face to face. They are also continuing to offer their Virtual Walk-In platform for those who feel more comfortable with that. The MHA's call center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From intervention, a caring and supporting voice at a moment of crisis, to connecting to resources and information, dial 211.

Crisis Services: Dial 211 - Help when you feel really anxious or really depressed and need someone to talk with so that you can stay safe. Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255 - Help if you are thinking about suicide.
MANDATORY SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION This is a reminder that all males are required by law to register for the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Preregistration can be done at 17 years, 3 months and the registration held until the 18th birthday. Failure to register can create future issues: the inability to receive federally funded college loans and grants, to obtain federally funded training and certification programs and federal employment. When submitting a utility bill, the bill must contain the following information:
If the parent and child live with someone else, the owner/lessee of the home needs to provide a proof of their residence (Utility Bill), and parent/guardian must complete the FCPS Parent Residency Affidavit (Multi-Family Disclosure Form and have it notarized, stating that the child resides at that address
You may scan and email the updated proof of residency to niki.dillard@fcps.org or drop it off in our counseling office.
WITHDRAWING FROM MIDDLETOWN HIGH SCHOOL: If your child is transferring to another school, please notify Ms. Dillard (Registrar) at Niki.Dillard@fcps.org or 240-236-7401 at least 2 full school days before their last day.
Please provide the following:
Before the student leaves on their last day at MHS, all financial obligations (including but not limited to: return or payment for Chromebook, calculators, text and library books, etc.) must be met. Once all obligated items are accounted for, the student will receive the transfer packet from Ms. Dillard to present to the new school.
