Message From The Principal
Hello MHS Families,
At the end of our first full week, it has been great each day to see our students smiling but masked faces. Our students have been very diligent in following FCPS face covering expectations.
We've had our underclassmen attend our "Welcome Back" assemblies during Knight’s Quest. The seniors will attend these next Monday or Tuesday, depending on where their last name falls in the alphabet. These assemblies allow us to review the opportunities and behavioral expectations for this school year. We will have graduation specific informational meetings with our seniors later in the fall.
If you haven't already, this weekend would be a great time to sit down with your child and ask to see their Schoology classrooms. Teachers will post weekly assignments and other class materials in Schoology frequently. This is a wonderful way to stay up to date on what your student is learning throughout the day. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the classroom teacher if you have any questions about assignments, or would like an update on the progress of your son or daughter.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and thank you for your continued support of Middletown High School.
Bernie Quesada Principal, Middletown High School
MHS Attendance Information
MHS Attendance: "One Call Now" Automated Text Messages Beginning Tuesday, August 24, One Call Now attendance messages will be used at MHS. The intent of the messages are to communicate with families if their child has been marked absent for 1 or more periods of the school day. This text is automated and it is possible that if a child enters school later in the day the text could occur in error. As always, please feel free to call our front office if you feel you have received a text in error or email the attendance secretary at mhs.attendance@fcps.org. This text will be sent to the parent/guardian(s) as noted in our system. If you wish to opt out of this text or any of the One Call Now calls you receive, feel free to listen to the message to the end for directions to opt out. Please know opting out will stop further communications from our school when we are using One Call Now.
Attention Parents: Action Required! On Wednesday, August 18, parents/guardians received an email from FCPS NoReply. A reminder email was also sent on Wednesday, August 25. This email provides instructions on how to use the secure online portal to update your student's information for this school year. This online process replaces the paper Student Information Cards of the past. Please take a few minutes to review and complete the online form as soon as possible. Please call the front office at (240) 236-7400 if you did not receive the email.

Maryland Seal of Biliteracy
Does your child use a language besides English at home? MHS, FCPS, and the state of Maryland would like to honor and celebrate that! The Maryland State Seal of Biliteracy is an award that recognizes a student's high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English and one or more other languages. These languages DO NOT need to be taught in school, so if you speak another language at home, you may be eligible. Maryland is one of more than 45 states that now offer the designation, and it conveys to colleges and employers that your child has a skill few others possess! Please see or email Ms. Stutzman (marcia.stutzman@fcps.org) for information on the award.
Academy For The Fine Arts (AFA) "Shadow Day" Registration is now open to visit the Academy for the Fine Arts during a monthly "Shadow Day." During a Shadow Day, students get to spend the first two blocks of the day at the AFA meeting staff, participating in a class and discussing the program with current students.
Due to COVID and lack of space on busses, transportation via the CTC shuttles will not be available for students who wish to participate in an AFA Shadow Day. If students are unable to participate in person, we are offering a virtual Shadow Day in November. Students who do wish to participate in person must either drive themselves or have a parent/guardian drop them off. Thank you for your understanding, and we apologize for the inconvenience.
Our first Shadow Day will be on Wednesday, September 15.
For questions, please contact the AFA Coordinator, Jonathan Kurtz at 240-236-8352 or jonathan.kurtz@fcps.org.
