Thank You, Mrs. Steger and Student Volunteers! For a number of years, Sharon Steger, MHS science teacher, has enlisted the help of some of her students in a project to create hand-tied fleece blankets for those whom need them. Student volunteers completed 48 blankets this year. One of the beneficiaries is a local program called Marks Backpacks which was founded in 2015 by Corrine Wilkinson, a 2013 MHS graduate. For more information, see article here: Blanket Project
May Wellness Topic: National Physical Fitness & Sports Month During the month of May, National Physical Fitness & Sports Month provides an opportunity to celebrate and promote physical activity and the benefits of sports participation.
Physical activity is key to maintaining health and well-being. Getting active can improve fitness and reduce stress, reduce risk for many chronic diseases, and ease symptoms of anxiety and depression. Youth sports can help kids and teens get active and develop leadership, time management, and relationship-building skills. For more information, see link below:

2021 Summer School Options Are you interested in SUMMER SCHOOL, to get ahead or to recover a credit? There are three options for you.
1. Elevate Academy ELEVATE offers in-person instruction at MHS. This opportunity is for students who previously took one or more of the offered courses, but did not successfully earn credit. Students may take one or two of the courses. Each course consists of 90 minutes of instruction a day and will cover all of the curriculum standards.
2. Site Based Virtual Summer School Virtual courses are completed in-person at MHS with the support of a Mentor Teacher. This program is offered through the FCPS Virtual School.
3. Virtual Summer School The FCPS Virtual School provides the opportunity for students to take completely virtual courses. One day a week, the student participates in a Google Meet with the virtual teacher. The rest of the course is self-paced, independent work.

Complete Senior Surveys Due Date: Tuesday, May 25 PLEASE complete your required SENIOR SURVEY before Tuesday, May 25! If you don't complete it before then you will be required to stay after the first graduation practice to complete it at that time.
The survey is a questionnaire designed to gather data related to each student's high school experience and post-secondary plans. Information gleaned from the survey responses provides data that is useful for decision-making at the state, system, and local school level.
After seniors log in to Naviance, they can find the Senior Survey in several places. Under "Important To-Dos and Tasks" on the home page, you will see it assigned. Students will click on “Senior Survey 2021” then click "take this survey."
IMPORTANT: COMPLETING THIS SURVEY ALSO ENSURES THAT FINAL SENIOR TRANSCRIPTS ARE SENT ELECTRONICALLY TO THE COLLEGE THE STUDENT IS ATTENDING!
To log into Naviance, log into your fcps account first. Then, go to https://student.naviance.com/middleths Click on “single sign-on” to log into Naviance. If you have problems, email your counselor.

Celebrating our Seniors Tuesday, June 1 Frederick County Public Schools and Middletown High School are excited to celebrate the Class of 2021. We recognize our Seniors have not had an opportunity to come together since March 13, 2020, so we are thrilled to have one special day to bring all of our Seniors back together. On Tuesday, June, 1 we will welcome all MHS seniors back to the campus to spend time with their fellow seniors, say goodbye to their teachers, and take part in some special activities we have planned (socially distanced, of course) after the scheduled graduation practice. All seniors are invited to stay for lunch provided by the school. We look forward to having the Class of 2021 in person on our campus again as we lead up to a beautiful graduation ceremony in our stadium on Wednesday, June 2.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Note - we will likely only need two of these rehearsal dates, but will reserve all three at this time so that we have alternate dates in the case of inclement weather.
If you have questions regarding the commencement, please contact senior advisors Ms. Boyll lisa.boyll@fcps.org or Ms. Anderson cynthia.anderson@fcps.org
MHS Cafeteria Refund Requests For Seniors If you are a senior with a positive balance on your lunch account, please complete the refund request form and either drop it off in the front office or scan it back to Zoe Haughwout at zoe.haughwout@fcps.org.
