MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL QUESADA
Hello MHS Families,
We've had a fantastic week at MHS. Spirit Week, organized by the SGA, kept things lively and provided us an opportunity to promote our student unity, even as we are schooling at home. Throughout the week, we held a nonperishable food and personal care item drive to benefit the Middletown Valley Food Bank. It was very successful and a testament to the very generous community we serve.
It was great, too, to see the masked faces of our seniors who came to school to take the SAT on Tuesday. The testing went very smoothly - students adhered to social distancing and mask protocols within the building. We were pleased with the great care our staff took to keep students safe and how cooperative and focused our students were.
With just a few days remaining in the first term, and in looking ahead to term 2, I want to remind students and parents that MHS staff are available during afternoon student support times to provide academic assistance. After-school tutoring opportunities are also available at during our ELO program.
I hope everyone enjoys a Happy Halloween and a great weekend.
Bernie Quesada, Principal
Tuesday, November 3: Schools Closed The Board of Education of Frederick County announced at its regular meeting this afternoon that Tuesday, November 3 will revert back to a non-school day, as originally planned and printed in the FCPS Calendar Handbook. On August 5, the Board had announced its intent for FCPS students to have instruction that day, as the school system is operating in a full virtual mode. The Maryland State Department of Education, however, did not approve the request for local schools to be in session on Election Day. The Board announced that FCPS will extend the school year by one day to provide the 180-day school year for students.FCPS will update the online calendars at www.fcps.org/calendar.
