INFORMATION FOR SENIORS
VIRTUAL COLLEGE VISITS TO MIDDLETOWN Colleges have started to schedule virtual visits for MHS students. During these visits you will meet as a small group with an admissions representative from that college to hear about the school and be able to ask questions.
Sign up is available to current Seniors and Juniors in your Naviance account. Naviance
Click the "Colleges" tab on the top right, click "Research Colleges" and click "College Visits."
Student Access to Virtual Visit Link: Students will have access to the virtual meeting link at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the meeting in Naviance Student. This is to ensure that students have ample time to access a college rep’s virtual meeting room.

VIRGINIA TECH VIRTUAL AGRICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM OPEN HOUSE Saturday, October 24 at 10:00 AM
Students are invited to join a virtual Agricultural Technology Program open house event that will take place Saturday, October 24 beginning at 10 a.m. Registration is still open: Registration. Virginia Tech invites students and their families, educators, school counseling professionals, industry partners, alumni, and Extension agents to attend and learn about Virginia Tech's ONLY 2-year program, where students earn an Associate of agriculture degree and get on the "Fast Track to Success". Students in the Agricultural Technology program have two great options and several emphasis areas to choose from including: Landscape and Turfgrass Management - golf and sports turf management or landscape design, installation, and management OR Applied Agricultural Management - livestock production, crop production, or agribusiness.

THE MARYLAND GENERAL ASSEMBLY STUDENT PAGE PROGRAM Contact Mr. Crompton by Monday, November 2 The Maryland General Assembly is seeking for six Frederick County high school seniors to serve as five pages and one alternate page during the coming legislative sessions. Each selected page serves two non-consecutive weeks in either the House of Delegates or the State Senate. The session runs from January 13 to April 12, 2021. Enter information as completely as possible. Enter special instructions in the note section, (for example, "Please email transcript to (insert email address)" or "Please include counselor recommendation form"). There will be a $2.00 fee (cash or check payable to MHS) per official transcript prepared, payable when the transcript is picked up. You will be notified when it is ready. Please allow 5 business days for a transcript request.
MARYLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP The Maryland Community College Promise Scholarship offers students up to $5,000 annually to attend a Maryland community college. The Maryland Higher Education Commission’s (MHEC) Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) administers the scholarship.
As of July 1, 2020, the service obligation and the age requirement have been eliminated to offer more Maryland students the opportunity to be eligible for up to $5,000 annually to attend a Maryland community college for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Freshman and Sophomores: FCC Early College Associates Degree Information Night: Thursday, November 19 at 7 PM Graduates of Early College at FCC will earn an associate degree and high school diploma simultaneously by attending FCC full-time during their junior and senior years. During this virtual presentation, members of the Dual Enrollment Team will go through the details of the Early College program and acceptance process, as well as answer questions from interested students and families. UMBC - Meyerhoff Scholars Program Scholarships Contact your counselor by November 15
The Meyerhoff Scholars Program at is looking for high school counselors to nominate college-bound seniors who have exhibited high aptitude in Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM) areas.
The Meyerhoff Program is open to all high-achieving high school seniors who plan to pursue undergraduate studies in STEM. The Program's merit scholarship awards range from $5,000-15,000 per year for in-state students and $10,000-22,000 per year for out-of-state students.
Students should strongly consider submitting their UMBC admissions application by the Sunday, November 1 Early Action deadline and completing their Meyerhoff application online at Meyerhoff Scholars Program by the December 1 Priority Application deadline.
Students interested in being nominated for the Meyerhoff Scholars Program MUST contact their counselor no later than November 15, 2020.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) Students interested in Science and Engineering Careers: Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) is offering an internship opportunity for the Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer. RECOMMENDATION LETTERS: Recommendations from TEACHERS: Seniors should first ask teachers for recommendation letters via email. Requests for a letter of recommendation should be made at least 2 weeks prior to the due date. If the teacher agrees to write the letter, seniors should be requesting them on Naviance.
Recommendations from COUNSELORS: Seniors should email the counselor for the letter of recommendation at least 2 weeks prior to the due date. There is no need to "request" a counselor letter on Naviance.
RECOMMENDATION BRAG SHEETS: Seniors should complete the "brag sheet" in Naviance prior to requesting teachers on Naviance. It provides helpful information that teachers and counselors can include in the recommendation letters. Be detailed and specific. Teachers and Counselors can access the completed brag sheet in Naviance.

MHS Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) Tutoring Directions: Click the calendar link, below, for the ELO course and select the date and time that you would like to meet with a teacher. All ELO tutoring sessions are conducted via Google Meet. A link will be provided with sign-up confirmation.
SENIORS LOOKING FOR COLLEGE APPLICATION HELP You can find information about college applications, how to use Naviance, etc in the Counseling Schoology Course. Look for - MHS Counseling Center - grade 12: class of 2021.
Look in the Materials section for handouts, a Naviance quick guide (Called "Naviance for Seniors 20-21"), Newsletters, and other helpful documents.
You can also schedule appointments with your counselor using the links provided in the Counseling Schoology course.
SUPPORT SERVICES: Students and family members who are experiencing difficulty may wish to contact the Frederick County Mental Health Association (MHA).
Walk-In Behavioral Health Services
The Walk-in Service has resumed seeing clients in person at their office located at 226 South Jefferson Street in Frederick for those who prefer to see someone face to face. They are also continuing to offer their Virtual Walk-In platform for those who feel more comfortable with that. The MHA's call center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From intervention, a caring and supporting voice at a moment of crisis, to connecting to resources and information, dial 211.

National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) Coronavirus Update Information
NACAC’s College Admission Status Update is a central resource of information about changes in college admission as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. The website currently includes information provided to NACAC by colleges and universities worldwide. You’ll find information on each institution’s plans and policies for admission events; for consideration of high school transcripts and standardized test scores; for decision and deposit dates; for summer and fall semester plans; and more. The Free HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Back to School College Fairs - July 2020 through March 2021 Students who are interested in attending an HBCU should consider filling out the Common Black College Application (CBCA), which for a limited time is only $20 to apply to 55 colleges and universities. ONLINE ENROLLMENT: New or Transferring Students to Middletown High School
To begin your student’s enrollment into Middletown High School for the 2020-2021 school year, please review and complete the steps below.
STEP 1: Please click and review the Enrollment Parent Checklist to begin the enrollment. Have these documents ready to be uploaded or emailed to our Registrar, Ms. Niki Dillard (email below) at the time you complete the online enrollment. If you are unable to upload, please drop them off at the MHS Front Office between 8 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday.
STEP 2: Pre-enroll using the FCPS Online Enrollment Website: FCPS Online Enrollment
STEP 3: ALL required/applicable documents listed on the Enrollment Checklist need to be received to process your student’s enrollment. Due to a limited number of documents you are able to be upload to the online website, email MHS Registrar, niki.dillard@fcps.org, any documents you are unable to upload or drop them off at the MHS front office.
SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION This is a reminder that all males are required by law to register for the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Preregistration can be done at 17 years, 3 months and the registration held until the 18th birthday. Failure to register can create future issues: the inability to receive federally funded college loans and grants, to obtain federally funded training and certification programs and federal employment.
