VIRTUAL GRADUATION - June 9, 2020 @ 2:00pm
FCPS is providing multiple opportunities for families and the community to view this year's virtual graduation ceremonies. The school system will share each ceremony via FCPS social media platforms and over FCPS TV, as well as from a link on each high school's webpage. FCPS is also purchasing USB drives with each school's ceremony to issue to graduates as a keepsake.
The broadcasts of the Middletown High School graduation video on FCPS TV via Comcast channel 18 and at www.fcps.org/tv are Tuesday, June 9 and Tuesday, June 16 , both at 2 p.m.
The public may also stream ceremonies via FCPSMaryland YouTube, @FCPSMaryland Twitter and FCPS Maryland Facebook sites.
In addition, the Frederick County Government and the Weinberg Center will celebrate 2020 graduates.
The Frederick County Government's high-definition channel 1085 and standard-definition channel 19 will broadcast the Middletown graduation videos with closed captioning as follows:
Friday, June 12 and Sunday, June 14: 5:45-7 p.m.
The Weinberg Center marquee will display "Congratulations Class of 2020" and a different school name each day from June 8-19. The Weinberg will update the marquee by 10 a.m. daily and leave the name until 9 a.m. the following day (except June 12) so graduates can stop by for photos.
John Healey, executive theater manager at the Weinberg, said, "This is just a small gesture we can provide to recognize the accomplishments of the 2020 graduates."

SENIOR SURVEY: Complete to ensure delivery of final transcripts to colleges
Please take a few minutes to complete your mandatory Senior Survey in Naviance.
If you have not logged in to Naviance since January 27, you need to make a new password.
Your Username is still your 8-digit student ID.
If you need to make a new password go to the login screen (https://student.naviance.com/middleths) and click “forgot password,” enter your FCPS email address, check your FCPS email (using gmail.com and logging in through your FCPS account), and if the Naviance password reset email is not in your inbox be sure to check your spam folder.
The survey is a questionnaire designed to gather data related to each student's high school experience and post-secondary plans. Information gleaned from the survey responses provides data that is useful for decision-making at the state, system, and local school level.

Students should please take the time to read each question and enter their answers accurately.
Please have the total amount of scholarship money OFFERED (from any college offers and private and local scholarships), whether or not accepted.
If seniors have any questions, they should email their counselor.
This survey collects information from every senior, not just college-bound seniors.

2020-21 MHS SEMESTER 1 DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS: This message is for you! If you have signed up for FCC courses at MHS OR at FCC for SEMESTER 1, you need to finalize your enrollment by Tuesday, June 9 by following these steps:

UNDERCLASSMEN MATERIAL RETURN JUNE 9 THROUGH JUNE 12
During the week of June 8th, underclassmen will be expected to visit Middletown High School to return school materials such as textbooks, library books, athletic and band equipment, etc.
Please review the schedule and procedures listed below. Students who will be returning to a FCPS school in the fall are allowed to keep their Chromebooks over the summer.
During this week, students will also be able to pick up their belongings left in the hall or PE lockers.
All school books, school property, and athletic equipment will be collected using a drive through model.
Please place materials in a plastic bag and label it with your child's first and last name.
Athletic uniforms/equipment - Please wash uniform(s) and then place them in a clear plastic bag(s) or as directed per your coach's instructions. If you do not have team bags, clearly print your name, sport, and uniform number on the outside of the bag with a permanent marker.
As you pull into the school, during the designated times, look for staff to direct you to the correct location near the rear cafeteria doors. MHS staff will be there to direct students where to go. We will be using CDC recommended safety measures.
A staff member will collect the bagged items from your vehicle (open trunk or window).
You will be directed to pull forward to another location where a staff member can assist with items left in lockers, art work, etc.
Please follow all directions so that we can assure the safety and efficiency of the process.

OPT-IN FOR A TRADITIONAL GRADE DEADLINE - Wednesday, June 10 Many of you received the traditional grade opt-in form from teachers. This is a reminder that parents need to fill out a Google form for each class if students are choosing a letter grade over the P/I-COL. When you receive a form invitation from a specific teacher, it is to opt-in for that course/teacher and that course/teacher only. Do not send additional information from multiple classes on that invitation/form.
Please make sure your child's name is on the form. Please be sure to access the form from a FCPS student account on a desktop, laptop or Chromebook. The last day for parents/students to choose if they want a letter grade or P/I-COL is Wednesday, June 10th.
If you have any questions, or wish to ensure that your opt-in for a traditional grade has been received, please email your student's teacher.
YEARBOOK INFORMATION Although the Middletown High School yearbook was sent to the printer on time, the Josten's printing plant in Nashville experienced delays because of the coronavirus. The books have not yet arrived and since they did not come in time to be distributed before the seniors' last day, the plan is to hold off on handing out books until the summer in hopes of a distribution plan that allows for some flexibility. Once a plan is in place, that information will be shared with the public through FindOutFirst and other means of communication.
FCC Admissions Virtual Information Session Monday, June 8, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm
All students and parents are welcome. There will be information presented on Admissions and the Enrollment Steps, Placement Testing, Counseling & Advising, Financial Aid and Scholarships, and Disability Services. Throughout the event, guests are able to submit questions in a chat box and there will be staff on hand to answer those questions.

2020-2021 VIRTUAL SCHOOL LEARNING FOR HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT The FCPS Frederick County Virtual School (FCVS) oversees virtual courses for high school credit.
Virtual Outside of School (VOS)
VOS is designed for students who are independent, self-motivated learners. It offers fall and spring honors and elective courses for grade improvement or original credit.
Students must be currently enrolled and entering 9th-12th grade with consistent access to a computer device and high-speed internet. Students should expect to work independently 8-10 hours/week.
Face-to-face required sessions may be replaced by video conferencing pending social distancing protocols.

INTERN and SSL Scheduling Information and Application Process for 2020 - 2021 School year
Attention SSL and Internship Students for 2020-2021: Typically, SSL and Internship students meet with Mrs. Gibson and Mr. Zimmer then complete gray paper application. Since we are not able to do this, we will need to have you complete an online application. This application gives us the information that we need to place you for next year. The Frederick Community College (FCC) STEM Scholars Program
This program provides students who have academic talent and financial need with additional support while they pursue their STEM-related academic and career goals on a full-time basis. STEM Scholars is designed to serve students with little or no prior college-level experience. The competitive scholarship program offers participants up to $13,000 in financial aid, as well as the training and mentoring needed to be successful in their STEM programs and prepares students to transition to the next stage of their educational and career pathways. The program will consist of three cohorts of ten students starting in Fall 2020, Fall 2021, and Fall 2022. FCC STEM Scholars is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). CLASS OF 2021 - RISING SENIORS US Naval Academy Preliminary Application Website Open
The preliminary application for admission to the Class of 2025 through the Academy's Admissions website is open at https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/. USNA conducts a rolling admissions process, and therefore, completing your application early is highly encouraged. Please know, however, your preliminary application must be submitted by December 31, 2020.
Although USNA has reduced or postponed external outreach efforts due to current public health concerns associated with the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), please know that the Office of Admissions remains fully operational. We have posted a Naval Academy Admissions Brief on YouTube for students, parents and educators to familiarize themselves with our admissions process. All counselors are available to conduct virtual visits and attend virtual college fairs as requested.

Bard, The Culinary Institute of America, Marist, RPI, Vassar, and West Point are excited to announce our first-ever virtual Hudson River College Cruise!
This collaborative and informative event about the college search process will take place on Tuesday, June 9th and Wednesday, June 10th. The "cruise" will allow students to hear from college admission experts at each institution through a series of presentations and live Q&As, all designed to help make the college search and application process less stressful and more productive. Students who applied to the Career and Technology Center (CTC) for the 2020-2021 school year: CTC Notification letters were mailed on Monday, April 27 to all students who submitted an application.
This is the time of year when CTC typically opens up their 2nd round of shadowing for programs that have seats available. Due to the current situation, because there is no shadowing, submitting an online application is the only step a student needs to take. Students can go to our website (www.careertech.net) and submit their online application, the link is prominent on our homepage. The online application is live now and ready to go!! Applications during the 2nd round are considered on a first come-first serve basis and are processed in the order in which they are received.

Frederick Community College Accepting Applications for Parents Lead Complete online application by July 15
Frederick Community College is accepting applications for the Parents Lead program, designed specifically to help parents attend FCC and earn a degree. Students in the next cohort will begin classes in fall 2020. Created for financially-eligible parents, the program provides specialized curriculum and advising services, as well as FCC Foundation scholarships for childcare while parents attend classes, or for other costs associated with child rearing. The cohort-based program includes a combination of online and on-campus evening or day-time classes and can be completed in as few as five semesters. Additional financial aid is also available to assist eligible students at FCC with tuition and fees.
Parents Lead is designed to support students pursuing a degree at FCC. Each applicant will meet with an academic counselor to discuss degree and certificate options.
Space in the Parents Lead program is limited. Interested parents should complete this online application by July 15 for best consideration. After applying, applicants will be invited (and required) to schedule an appointment with Parents Lead Advisor/Adult Services Director Janice Brown (jbrown@frederick.edu) to review how the program works, assist with steps needed to enroll at FCC, connect to other sources of financial assistance for their education, and answer questions.

ONLINE ENROLLMENT
Online enrollment is now open for students NEW to Frederick County Public Schools!
Parents may enroll their child in FCPS by creating an account here in English or here in Spanish. Additional information is online at https://www.fcps.org/student-services/enrolling-a-student. All new enrollments, including pre-kindergarten (pre-k) and kindergarten, occur online in a secure virtual environment.
2020 SAT TEST DATES AND REGISTRATION DEADLINES
The College Board has cancelled the June 6, 2020 testing date. If it is safe from a public health standpoint, they will provide weekend SAT administrations every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. This includes a new administration on September 26 and the previously scheduled tests on August 29, October 3, November 7, and December 5.
Students can register for these administrations starting in late May. College Board will contact students directly when they have determined an exact date.

2020 ACT TEST DATES AND REGISTRATION DEADLINES

Selective Service Registration This is a reminder that all males are required by law to register for the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Preregistration can be done at 17 years, 3 months and the registration held until the 18th birthday. Failure to register can create future issues: the inability to receive federally funded college loans and grants, to obtain federally funded training and certification programs and federal employment.
