Cap, Gown, & Tassel Orders All seniors interested in participating in the graduation ceremony on Tuesday, June 2, at 2 PM, Knott Arena at Mount St. Mary's University, must have a cap, gown and tassel. If you missed the deadline, please place your order immediately at www.balfour.com. Orders will be shipped in bulk to the school around mid-April.
Mandatory Senior Class Meeting, Wednesday, March 11 Mandatory senior class meeting with be Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 9-11am in the auditorium. If you are off-campus, please make arrangements with work or FCC professors to attend this meeting. We will be distributing important graduation information as well as take our "20" class picture and begin our spring fundraiser. AM CTC students buses will be held until end of the meeting

Enter information as completely as possible. Enter special instructions in the note section, (for example, "Please email transcript to (insert email address)" or "Please include counselor recommendation form"). There will be a $2.00 fee (cash or check payable to MHS) per official transcript prepared, payable when the transcript is picked up. You will be notified when it is ready. Please allow 5 business days for a transcript request.
UPCOMING COLLEGE VISITS
Any interested student should use their Naviance Account (see link above) to sign up for these and other visits and determine the location of the visit. All sign-ups close 24 hours prior to the visit time. Please see Mrs. Bertulaitis in Counseling if you have questions.
CTC: Career and Technology Center Shadowing The Career and Technology Center is a part of the Frederick County Public School system. CTC programs are available in a variety of areas ranging from the traditional vocational areas to 4-year college preparatory programs. Students can earn college credits and certifications as well as industry certifications and licenses. Programs are taught in half-day blocks and students attend MHS for the other half of the day.
Shadowing a program is the first step in the process and is open to students in grades 9-11, except for Cosmetology, which only 10th grade students may shadow. Students need to see Mrs. Bertulaitis in the Counseling Office to sign up for shadowing, and can do that now. The time frame for shadowing continues through Thursday, February 27; however, slots are filling up quickly. A student may shadow up to two programs. Once we have an appointment for the student, he/she will be given a permission slip which must be signed and returned to Mrs. Bertulaitis. Students must shadow in order to apply; application deadline is Friday, March 6.
2020 Miss Frederick Competition Saturday, February 15 Young women aged 13-25 who live, work or go to school on a full-time basis in Frederick County, MD are eligible to participate in the Miss Frederick Competition to win scholarship awards and to earn the job of Miss Frederick or Miss Frederick’s Outstanding Teen. Attention Sophomores: FCC Early College Information Night Tuesday, February 18 at FCC in the JBK Theater (Visual and Performing Arts Center) 7:00 PM (snow date: February 25). Frederick Community College will be holding their final Early College Information Night on
Students who plan to apply for the Early College program are required to attend at least one of the four Early College Information Nights that we have offered or a session about Early College that we have presented at your high school. This program is open to all FCPS sophomores. This is the last informational session to be held prior to the April 1, 2020 application deadline. FCC Night for High School Seniors Thursday, February 20 6-8 pm in the JBK Theater
There will be a table fair from 6-6:45 pm where students and parents are able to talk with academic and department representatives. The program portion of the event will begin at 6:45 pm, where representatives from Admissions, Counseling & Advising and Financial Aid will present. Community Foundation - Scholarship Information Session for Seniors Tuesday, February 25 MHS Auditorium during Knight's Quest (10:15 AM - 11:00 AM)
The Community Foundation of Frederick County administers many grants and scholarships. Since 1986, the Community Foundation has been the leading source for post-secondary scholarship funding in Frederick County. Our program supports nearly every area of study imaginable, with scholarships funded by generous donors who believe in the value of education. The online scholarship application will open from March 1 through March 31, 2020. A Community Foundation representative will conduct an information session on how to apply for interested seniors and parents, to be held at Middletown HS from 10:15 to 11:00 on Tuesday, February 25.

AP EXAM REGISTRATION DEADLINE Friday, February 28
Registration for AP Exams is open through Friday, February 28 for students enrolled in a Spring AP Course. The Fall and Yearlong AP class registration window has closed. Students will only be able to register for exams for courses in which they are enrolled during the 2019-2020 school year. Students wishing to register for additional AP Exams will need to see Ms. Naff in the front office.
The cost of each exam is $94. There is a $40 fee for late registration. Exams should be paid through Schoolcash Online.
A reduced exam fee is available for students who meet certain financial criteria. Students meeting eligibility requirements should complete the waiver form and return it to Dr. Rumpf in the front office by Friday, February 28. AP Waiver Application

Out of District Application Deadline - March 1 Parents/legal guardians who wish to apply for a child to attend a school outside their assigned attendance area must do so by March 1 prior to each new school year. You can complete your request using the Out of District Transfer Request Form or go to www.fcps.org – Forms – Out of District Transfer.
Note: Schools that are projected to be over capacity in the coming school year are restricted, so that only students residing in the school's attendance area may go there. Restricted high schools for 2020-2021 are Frederick, Urbana and Walkersville.

Guest Speaker: Ms. Bonnie Walter, Frederick Memorial Hospital Monday, March 23 There will be a guest speaker on Monday, March 23 during Knights Quest (10:30-11:00) in the Media Center. Ms. Bonnie Walters, Volunteer Coordinator at Frederick Memorial Hospital, will discuss how to become a hospital volunteer. This is geared towards 9th and 10th grade students. Free SAT Test Administration for all MHS Juniors Wednesday, March 25 Middletown High School, 7:30 AM The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) will be administered to all MHS Juniors at the high school on the morning of Wednesday, March 25. FCC Accuplacer Tests for English and Math Thursday, April 2 at Middletown HS Students who are interested in taking Dual Enrollment Classes during the 2020-2021 school year may need to take the FCC Accuplacer test. These tests will be given at Middletown High School on April 2. Further information to follow.
Johns Hopkins University Biomedical Engineering Innovation Online Course Developed by Johns Hopkins faculty, Biomedical Engineering Innovation (BMEI) introduces biomedical engineering to high school students by modeling biological systems, designing experiments to test those models, and introducing engineering principles to solve design problems that are biological, physiological, and/or medical. Students will model human efficiency, the arm, and the cardiovascular system. Students are expected to apply their knowledge of math, physics and biology to solve practical problems encountered in biomedical engineering. Students Who Are Interested in the Military: US Naval Sea Cadets Program, Frederick Chapter Mathew Fontaine Maury Pathfinders Division The US Naval Sea Cadets are non-profit youth program geared towards teaching today's youth about the opportunities that the US Armed Forces provide WITHOUT any service obligation. Meetings are held one weekend a month at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Building in Frederick, MD. Meeting are held both Saturday & Sunday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, along with other community activities throughout the year.
If you are a student, or the parent of a student, who is interested in learning more about the program or even the Armed Forces, there will be an open house briefing coming in March 2020 or June 2020. Any students or young adults from the ages of 10 years old to 17 years old are invited to attend this meeting to learn more about the US Naval Sea Cadets. Parents are welcome to come along as well to learn more. The Sea Cadets also accepts applications for adult leaders as well who want to help in providing opportunities to our community for tomorrow's leaders.

Selective Service Registration This is a reminder that all males are required by law to register for the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Preregistration can be done at 17 years, 3 months and the registration held until the 18th birthday. Failure to register can create future issues: the inability to receive federally funded college loans and grants, to obtain federally funded training and certification programs and federal employment.
