MHS Protocol: Illness and Dismissal from School When a student is not feeling well during the school day they MUST ask to visit the health room to be evaluated by our school nurse or health technician. At that time the health professional on site will assess the student's condition and make parental contact. Through communication with the health room professional in collaboration with the parent the student may be released for early dismissal from school. The student and parent must then follow the dismissal/check-out process with Ms. Fossett (our attendance secretary in the front office).
IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE PRACTICE NOR SUPPORTED BY THE SCHOOL OR ADMINISTRATION for a student to text or call their parent from class or from another location in the building to go home ill without first accessing the health room. We are asking students and parents to respect this process and procedure.
Parents and students are also reminded that all absences both excused and unexcused count against your child's overall attendance rate. State Regulation deems any child as having a chronic attendance issue if they do not maintain a minimum rate of 90% for the school year. Students identified as Chronic Non-Attenders will have a statement of identification on their term 4 report card. At this time any student who has exceeded 8 days of absence is currently below 90% and has been identified as a risk for final year-end chronic non-attendance. With nearly 100 days left in the school year there is plenty of time for students to increase the overall rate of attendance. This will also ensure they maintain eligibility for PROM, HOMECOMING, GRADUATION and other school-based events.

Baccalaureate Help Needed The PTSA is looking for parents of juniors and seniors to help with the 2020 Senior Baccalaureate to be scheduled in May 2020. Planning will starts soon. This time-honored tradition is a student-led community program for MHS seniors to celebrate their upcoming graduation by hearing inspirational speakers, enjoying the talents of fellow seniors, and reflecting on their life journey to graduation. We are the only school in the county that hosts a Baccalaureate. It is always well-received by parents and students alike, and although this is a ceremony for seniors, interested parents of juniors are encouraged to assist in order to gain experience and insight for their future senior's baccalaureate. An informational meeting will be forthcoming in December. If you are interested in helping the PTSA and MHS seniors plan this year’s Baccalaureate, please email the PTSA Baccalaureate Committee at mhsptsabacc@gmail.com
Become A Member! Please remember to support your MHS PTSA by becoming a member or contributing to the Write-A-Check fund. Becoming a member doesn't commit you to volunteer, but it gives you a vote and a voice in advocating for improvements for our school and Frederick County teachers! Both the membership and the Write-a-Check fundraiser provide the financial wherewithal for the PTSA to organize and implement a wide range of activities in support of the MHS experience for the students. In addition, volunteers are always welcome to help at individual events. As a friendly reminder, Seniors who wish to apply for the $500 PTSA scholarship in the Spring must be members as well.
