CTC: Career and Technology Center Shadowing - Open House October 24
The Career and Technology Center is a part of the Frederick County Public School system. CTC programs are available in a variety of areas ranging from the traditional vocational areas to 4-year college preparatory programs. Students can earn college credits and certifications as well as industry certifications and licenses. Programs are taught in half-day blocks and students attend MHS for the other half of the day. CTC is hosting an Open House on Thursday, October 24 from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Shadowing a program is the first step in the process and is open to students in grades 9-11. Students need to see Mrs. Bertulaitis in the Counseling Office to sign up for shadowing, and can do that now. The time frame for shadowing begins Tuesday, November 5 and continues through Thursday, February 27. A student may shadow up to two programs. Once we have an appointment for the student, he/she will be given a permission slip which must be signed and returned to Mrs. Bertulaitis.
Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) provides an opportunity for high school students to participate in research at a Department of Navy (DoN) laboratory during the summer.
The goals of SEAP are to encourage participating high school students to pursue science and engineering careers, to further their education via mentoring by laboratory personnel and their participation in research, and to make them aware of DoN research and technology efforts, which can lead to employment within the DoN.
SEAP is providing competitive research internships, including a stipend, to 250 high school students this year. (Grades 9 through graduating seniors) Participating students spend eight weeks during the summer doing research at 28 DoN laboratories.
For opportunities, check out SEAP
SEAP's Online Application closes on November 1, 2019
