There have been so many wonderful and exciting events in the past week (Boosterthon, OGES Annual Arts Night/Drama Performance, PTA Election, Reptile Show for 3rd Grade, and so on. Please check out the pictures below.
At the Drama Performance/Arts Show, I shared brief information about our plans to have a multi-grade classroom with both 4th and 5th grade students. If you are the parent of a 5th grader, it is really important that you read information below; there is a link for volunteers to help with the 5th Grade Celebration that is fast approaching on June 18th.
Next week is our annual Field Day on Friday; please join us for the fun.

5th Grade Celebration
5th Grade Celebration-New Date-June 18th
If you have a 5th grade student, we hold an event at the end of the year that includes a program where students are celebrated in a ceremony as they end their elementary school journey. Parents/volunteers then provide the students with lunch, before students in their classes participate in fun activities or rotations. This year there will be kickball, water games, a DJ and additional snacks and beverages.
There are many parents who have donated funds and are willing to volunteer to help serve the food, run stations and even help with the clean up at the end of the day. We need approximately 30 volunteers to serve food and run stations for the event-June 18th. If you are able to help, please use this link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c044ba5ad29a7fe3-orchard
A part of the program will be a slide show with each child's current school picture; a tradition is to include a baby or toddler picture of each student. Please don't forget to send in your child's baby picture. A planning group meets each month and needs your help. Our next meeting is Monday, June 3rd at 6 pm at OGES. Please join us.

Summer Meals Program 2019
FCPS Food & Nutrition Services will be operating the Summer Meals Program 2019, from June 24th – August 21st. Children aged 18 years and younger will be allowed to get a free breakfast and lunch at any of the sites listed below.
• Hillcrest Elementary, Frederick High, Lincoln Elementary, North Frederick Elementary, Waverley Elementary, Whittier Elementary, Governor Thomas Johnson High, Governor Thomas Johnson Middle, Monocacy Middle
• C. Burr Artz Library will offer Free Lunches on Tuesdays & Thursdays
• Breakfast is served 8:30-9:00; Lunch is served 11:30-12:30.

Media Center
To All Parents & Guardians of OGES Students:
With just 13 days of school left the Media Center is beginning to collect back all items checked out to students. This is a list of items your child currently has checked out as of Friday, May 17. Please see the important dates below to help you and your child be sure that all materials are returned before the end of the school year.
Week of May 20 - Final checkout for all students. All students limited to 1 item.
Friday, May 24 - Final day of book checkout for all students.
Wednesday, June 12 - All items are due back to the Media Center.
Please note that any students with outstanding items out or fines due will not receive their report cards at the end of the year.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding books or fines, please let Mrs. Lungociu know ASAP.

What is kindness? We've had many discussions this year and we see it in practice. For example, check out these fifth graders who chose to help Ms. Pandolfo's class in lieu of recess. So proud!

Spanish Speaking Community Of Maryland through the Dept of Justice. Maria Herrerra is the executive director of the agency and they offer several services such as:
-Financial assistance with immigrant families who need legal consultations and immigration services.
-Provide mental health services (therapist on site who can work with students or families)
-Transportation
-Nutrition Help
-Home visits
-In home behavior management

Boosterthon was a huge success!

PTA Officers for 2019-2020
Elections were held at the PTA’s General Membership meeting on May 29th and the following slate of officers was approved for the 2019-2020 school year:
President – Jen Pond Vice President – Crystal Kirk Treasurer – Dave Loewenstein Secretary – Cindy Martin
The officers will assume their duties effective July 1st. The PTA would like to thank its outgoing president (Rob Pond) and vice president (Stacie Hoyos) for their years of service to the students and staff at Orchard Grove. Thank you, Rob & Stacie!
Field Day will be held on Friday, June 7th from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Orchard Grove students are looking forward to another fun-filled day of outdoor activities this year.
