News from Principal Shirley Olsen
Our last quarter is upon us and the weather is finally beginning to improve. We want our students to finish strong so that they are fully prepared for the next level/grade. Please have them attend school everyday even when you are tempted to keep them home. Everyday counts. With that being said, please see many awesome events coming to OGES in the next several weeks. Of particular note is our OGES Community Culture Night that will celebrate the diversity of our students, family and staff. There will be crafts, performances, and displays to show the many cultures and countries we all come from.

Important Alert
We have several parents who are creating a dangerous situation for our car riders and walkers. Please do not come into the driveway on the side nearest the playground unless you are parking. Having students run to the car is extremely dangerous. If you are not willing to come into the car rider lane, then park on the playground, get out of your car and then retrieve your child. Otherwise in the future, we will keep your child in the office for you to retrieve.
As a reminder for parents of car riders, please do not park along Hannover Drive at arrival or dismissal time. This posted area is a no parking zone during those times and it supports us with protecting students' safety. We thank you for your cooperation.
On March 29, 2019, PTA sponsored it's annual Talent Show; all of the acts showcased a variety of talents. Please check out a few images below:
Looking Ahead

Attendance
Good attendance leads to success and boosts graduation. Our school goal is 96%.
See our Attendance Flyer.
5th Grade Celebration
If you have a 5th grade student, we hold an event at the end of the year that includes a program where students are celebrated in a ceremony as they end their elementary school journey. Parents/volunteers then provide the students with lunch, before students in their classes participate in fun activities or rotations. This year there will be kickball, water games, a DJ and additional snacks and beverages.
There are many parents who have donated funds and are willing to volunteer to help serve the food, run stations and even help with the clean up at the end of the day. If you are willing to donate, please send in cash or check made out to OGES but indicate that it is for the 5th grade celebration.
A part of the program will be a slide show with each child's current school picture; a tradition is to include a baby or toddler picture of each student. Please don't forget to send in your child's baby picture. A planning group meets each month and needs your help. Our next meeting is Monday, April 8th at 6 pm at OGES. Please join us.
If you are willing to donate or help with the event and cannot attend the monthly meetings please call Mr. Rashene Hill at 240-447-2955 or http://mirmaitamshene@gmail.com. We will soon be putting out a sign up genius for parents to sign up as volunteers after the morning's program on June 14th.

OGES Family and Friends:
Love, Laughter and Leisure are the basic needs of all children, especially those who have experienced the death of a loved one. Hospice of Frederick County established Camp Jamie in 1991.Camp Jamie is a weekend experience, designed to gently teach coping skills and help build self-esteem and trust. It also offers a safe, comfortable environment for children to express their grief. Through interactions with other children and adults, the children learn that they are not alone in their grief.
