School Closed - Thanksgiving Break
News from the Office
Greetings!
We received some great news this week. The A. James Clark Engineering School at the University of Maryland has again named Urbana High School one of its “Top 25 Feeder Schools” in recognition of the number of UHS alumni who are next class of bright and aspiring engineers at the University of Maryland. We’re proud to be one of the top in-state high schools preparing students who advance to the University of Maryland.
In this edition of Hawk News, you’ll notice an appeal to support the less fortunate in our community in the coming holiday season. Our Holiday Donation Drive kicks-off right after the Thanksgiving break. Even though our students are not attending school in-person, UHS will again provide support to students and families in need this year. Although we anticipate the need in our community to be greater than in the recent past, we know we live in a generous and giving community. In advance, we thank all who will join us in the upcoming donation drive.
Next week will be a short one at our school. We’ll have more Hawk News before Thanksgiving.
Dave Kehne, Principal
Dear UHS students, families and staff,
Tis’ the season of giving and we are asking for your support in our Holiday Donation Drive. The purpose of the Holiday Donation Drive is to provide gift cards to families in our community who are in need this holiday season. We are also accepting checks to go towards our Helping Hawks fund in order to financially support families in need.
Our Holiday Donation Drive will begin on Monday, November 30, and will go until Monday, December 21.
Gift cards and/or checks can be submitted with the amount of money noted on the gift card and/or on the envelope that the gift card comes in. Gift cards and checks can be mailed to Urbana High School at 3471 Campus Drive Ijamsville, MD 21754 or dropped off in the Gift Card Donation Box in the front lobby of the school. Checks should be mailed to Urbana High School to the attention of "Erin Stohlman" written on the envelope.
Should you have any questions regarding the Holiday Donation Drive, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Stohlman by email at Erin.Stohlman@fcps.org or by phone at (240) 236-7613.
Thank you for your generosity and for helping to make the holidays more joyful for those in need.

This Week's Green Team Tip:
CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE! As the weather gets colder, the air shrinks, and when the tires are deflated, it takes more energy (fossil fuels) to maintain your speed. Adding air to your tires can improve your car's efficiency by over three percent!
We would like to invite new members in the UHS community to join the UHS Academic Team. We practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 pm at meet.google.com. The join code is: academicteam1.
The season runs through the end of February. Matches against other FCPS high schools will be conducted virtually on Friday evenings, beginning the first Friday after winter break, and run from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The county tournament will transition to in-person competition if and when we are able. Those interested can also email Mr. Hayes at John.Hayes@fcps.org for more information.
