Senior Cap and Gown Pictures (by appointment) - 8 am - 4:15 pm - Aud
Senior Material Return - 10 am - 2 pm - Gym Parking Lot
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Today was the last day of classes for the Class of 2020. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to honoring them in the days ahead.
This year, UHS continued a strong tradition of Advanced Placement participation this year. We commend all students who continued their advanced studies and took AP exams this week. Their perceverance is impressive and can likely make for the topics of some excellent college admissions essays. Thanks, too, to our faculty who continued to motivate and challenge our AP students via online activities and additional materials.
Since Wednesday, seniors and their families have visited us for scheduled times for cap and gown pictures and to receive honor cords, stoles, and diploma covers. Our senior class advisors and our administrators have appreciated the many kind words we’ve heard from seniors and their families during these visits. Next Tuesday is the final day for these visits. Families may sign up for remaining time slots at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050E4AA8A923A5FB6-uhsgraduation. All items for seniors not joining us for these sessions will be kept and will be available when diplomas are picked-up.
Seniors are also reminded to return school materials. Information is noted below under the Senior News headline. Our staff have started to inventory items issued to students. We are concentrating on seniors first and will soon work on items issued to underclassmen. With seniors having finished their academic assignments and underclassmen having only a few weeks of school, it is time for families to organize school materials so they can be returned to UHS in a timely manner. For now, seniors should have returned or plan to return materials on Tuesday, May 26. Underclassmen should be on the lookout for information coming soon.
Once we have information as to the final day of school (still pending) we will finalize how we will collect materials for underclassmen. We are pleased that FCPS has announced underclass students may keep their Chromebooks over the summer rather than return them at the conclusion of the school year. That said, underclassmen are expected to take good care of these machines over the summer break.
As we begin the Memorial Day holiday weekend, we pause to honor those who’ve given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We are indebted to these brave Americans.
With Hawk Pride,
Dave Kehne, Principal

EXAM REVIEW BOOK DRIVE
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: Do you have any AP, IB, SAT, or other exam review books that you no longer want or need? If so, consider donating them to ApCYCLE!
ApCYCLE is a student-led organization aiming to provide disadvantaged students across Maryland with access to exam review books to allow for greater success in their college-level exams and futures. Last year, students at Urbana High donated over 30 books, which directly benefited Baltimore City Public Schools; this year, we can double that number with your help!

YEARBOOKS
New for UHS: Digital Yearbooks!
Due to the current pandemic, our yearbook printing plant was closed for several weeks which delayed production of our printed yearbooks. Despite this, UHS has negotiated a virtual yearbook at no additional charge to each student who has already purchased a yearbook.
PlusOne App The virtual yearbook will be available on mobile devices (smartphones, iPads, etc.) via a free app called PlusOne by Herff Jones. After downloading the app, log in using student name and student ID number.
How long will the digital yearbook be available? The virtual yearbook will remain online at least until hard copies have been made available at UHS for distribution. All students should now have online access at this time.
Will I still get my printed yearbook? How? Yes! As soon as we receive printed yearbooks at UHS, we will work out a plan to make yearbooks available safely, and as efficiently as possible. UHS will follow all social distancing requirements in effect at the time.
Yearbook questions? Contact Kristin.Johnson@fcps.org.

NOTES FROM THE COUNSELING OFFICE
1) Attention parents of current juniors (rising seniors). The senior brag sheet is available in Naviance for all current juniors. This is a required task of all students who wish to have their counselor write them a letter of recommendation for a four-year university. In addition, the counseling office uses this document to aid in writing all letters of recommendation. We would ask that students review and slowly work on completing this assignment by the end of term four at the latest. If you have any questions, please contact your child's counselor.
2) The Counseling Office has posted a needs assessment on Naviance for all students. We are asking some basic wellness questions and using it as a chance to get feedback on what our office can do to aid students while in remote learning. If your child has not completed the assessment, please have them complete it in the near future in order to help the counseling office provide support for those that need it.
3) All seniors should update their "college I'm attending" in Naviance upon finalizing their college choice. We use this screen to know where to send final transcripts at the end of the school year. Students can finalize their choice by logging into Naviance and navigating to the "Colleges" menu. Once inside the Colleges menu, they can go to "College I'm Applying To" which allows students to designate the "College I'm Attending." You would select that college and hit save.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Check for the latest scholarships on Naviance. Some deadlines are fast approaching.
Frederick Community College Scholarships:
The FCC Scholarships will be handled differently this year. Students will complete all applications using FCC's online platform at frederick.edu/foundationscholarships. Scholarship Updates:
Students can only apply online. No paper applications will be accepted. Students can upload transcripts (official or unofficial), letters of recommendation, and other required documents directly into the system.
To Apply:
For more information and any questions, please contact Michael Thornton, scholarship program manager, at mthornton@frederick.edu.
