THE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Thank you to all of those that attended our 9th Grade Registration and our Electives Fair on Wednesday. It is very important to choose courses carefully as we staff based on student selections. Please take time to work with your student to choose a balanced schedule that allows them to challenge themselves academically and allows time for pursuing creative interests and activities outside of school.

Red Out
Basketball Games this Week!
Girls games on Wednesday 2/13 and Boys games on Friday 2/15. Show up in red to support heart health awareness and the American Heart Association. Red shirts will be on sale at the games and at lunch all week.
Maryland Seal of Biliteracy - 2018-2019
This year, eligible OHS students may apply for the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy. High school graduates who can function in two or more languages are equipped with the knowledge and skills to participate successfully in college, careers, and a diverse 21st century society. The Maryland State Seal of Biliteracy is established to recognize and reward excellence in language learning as measured by rigorous proficiency assessments.

Yearbooks on Sale
Yearbooks are on sale for the price of $75 until February 22. The deadline to order yearbooks is March 1. Only a few extra books will be ordered and will be available on a first come, first service basis in May.
Attending a School Outside Your Attendance Area
Dates for applying to attend a school outside the usual attendance area are January 2-March 1.*
FCPS will post the out-of-district application online on January 2 in the section For Families and Students at
www.fcps.org
. Those needing assistance may call 240-236-2493 after January 2.
Schools projected to be over capacity in the coming school year are closed to out-of-district students. FCPS will post the list of restricted schools online in December. For details, please see the updated Assignment and Transfer of Students Regulation 400-15:

*In the prior version of the regulation in place last year, the application window was April 1-May 31. In 2019, FCPS will post applications January 2, due by March 1.
