THE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Congratulations to our newest members of the National Honor Society at OHS. On Wednesday, November 28, we welcomed 149 members to the Oakdale Chapter of the NHS to bring our total membership to 224 Bears. The minimum requirement for Juniors and Seniors to be invited to apply to the NHS is a weighted GPA of 3.5. Once invited, students submit an application that consists of an essay and an accounting of their service, leadership and extracurricular activities. Service continues to be an important part of an NHS member’s experience, as they are required to continue with service hours to maintain their membership in the organization. If you have a student in 9th or 10th grade that aspires to be an NHS member, talk to them about seeking meaningful leadership and service experiences that inspire them!
Starting December 7 and continuing through the week of December 10th, an exhibit titled Forget Me Not from Towson University will be set up along Main Street. This exhibit documents 24 stories of Jewish children living in three German towns during the Holocaust. The exhibit consists of several large banners providing background information and the stories of survivors/victims. These will be used by our Social Studies class this week and on display during all after school events. Please take time to read these stories when you visit OHS.
NEWS AND EVENTS
Late Arrival Policy
As a reminder, students need to be in class when the bell rings at 7:30 each morning. Starting Wednesday, December 5, an administrator will be in the front hall to assign consequences for unexcused late arrivals to school. Students receive a warning for the 1st and 2nd time they’re late to school. The 3rd late earns an after school detention; the 4th late earns two after school detentions; the 5th late and any additional late arrivals earn a Saturday School. Unexcused late arrivals may also result in students failing classes due to attendance.

MD General Assembly
Every year, five high school seniors from Frederick County have the opportunity to work in the state legislature in Annapolis as a student page. This is an excellent opportunity for seniors who have an interest in government and politics. Past OHS students who have served as pages in the Maryland General Assembly said it was an outstanding experience. Interested students should see Mr. Smarick in B108 for more information.
