V Basketball Girls Scrimmage vs. Centennial @ OHS
This has been an exciting week at Oakdale High School! Emma Hall, OHS journalism student, had an article published via School Newspapers Online. Her article “High School: Still the Best 4 Years of Our Lives” looks at the stress level of high school students and the pressure brought on by high achievement expectations. This is great point of view article—very well written and insightful. Please take time to read Emma’s contribution: High School: Still The Best 4 Years of Our Lives? https://bestofsno.com/30560/features/high-school-still-the-best-4-years-of-our-lives/
We had an amazing group of 22 Bears who participated in the Student Voices seminar at OHS on Wednesday. This seminar is the first of a three part program that will include Linganore, Frederick and Governor Thomas Johnson High School. OHS spent Wednesday learning about other OHS students, commonalities, differences, points of view. Part two will give them an opportunity to meet the student groups from the other participating high schools. Take a look on twitter for the FCPS Cultural Proficiency post @fcps_cp. Thanks to FCPS central office staff and OHS teachers who assisted with facilitation!
We ended the week with a pep rally for our State Champion athletes. Students asked if they could have this celebration on Friday to recognize our OHS State Champion Unified Tennis Team, Boys’ Soccer Team and wish our football team good luck…and of course Coach Krivos and I said yes. My opening remarks to students recognized the leadership of the students who requested and helped plan the rally, the leadership and planning of our student section throughout the Fall season, and how excited I was that the band, dance team, and cheerleaders were going to all be a part of the State Championship football game on Saturday. What a great opportunity for several of our student groups and athletes to represent OHS at the state level. As I stated in an earlier message, winning the Boys’ Soccer State title and the School Spirit award for positive fan support was a double win…hoping to repeat that double win on Saturday!
