THE PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
First of all, thank you for all of your hard work this year Oakdale Bears! We hope you celebrate Thanksgiving with your family and have a safe and happy long weekend! A big congratulations to our Boys’ Soccer team for their State Championship win on Saturday. It was amazing! In addition, the OHS fans won the sportsmanship award for the tournament. What a great double victory for the Oakdale community. Playoffs will continue this weekend with football. Tickets for the State Semifinal Football game will be on sale Thanksgiving morning at OHS. Please look for Coach Krivos in the gym lobby from 8 AM to 10 AM if you would like to purchase an advance ticket for the game. The gates will open at 5:30 PM for the game. The OHS student section will be joined by the Band in the stands for this game and we are all looking forward to the great music! Remember, press and television will most likely be at this event. Please continue to present a positive image as you have all year long—who knows—is another double victory in our future. Happy Thanksgiving…looking forward to finishing 2018 #BearStrong!

2018-19 STATE OF MARYLAND LITERACY ASSOCIATION YOUNG AUTHORS’ CONTEST
The 2018-19 Young Authors’ Contest (YAC) is underway! YAC is an annual contest sponsored by the State of Maryland Literacy Association (SoMLA) and promoted via Frederick County Reading Council and Frederick County Public Schools. Each year, students at Oakdale High School are encouraged to participate in the SoMLA Young Authors’ Contest. Students can submit poetry and short story entries for a chance to win. This is also a great opportunity for students’ creative writing skills to shine and, if a student becomes a county or state winner, this is quite an honor to brag about on any future college or scholarship applications!
For additional details and guidelines, students must join the official YAC Google Classroom with code: vo83ln or visit/email Ms. Owen (
Renate.Owen@fcps.org
) or Ms. Murdoch (
Amy.Murdoch@fcps.org
) in the Library Media Center. Deadline for all submissions is December 10, 2018.

MD General Assembly
Every year, five high school seniors from Frederick County have the opportunity to work in the state legislature in Annapolis as a student page. This is an excellent opportunity for seniors who have an interest in government and politics. Past OHS students who have served as pages in the Maryland General Assembly said it was an outstanding experience. Interested students should see Mr. Smarick in B108 for more information.
