The Weekly Bear News
School Calendar
As the school year winds down, it is easy for students to become less attentive to school work and school attendance. Unfortunately, this can really affect how the year ends for many students. Remember, students are expected to have a note for each absence, late arrival or early dismissal. Students who are participating in sports or other extracurricular activities may not miss more than 1.5 hours of school, for an excused reason, and still be able to participate in the activity. Cutting class and other unexcused absences may cause students to fail a class due to attendance for the semester or the term. Please check HAC each week to make sure your student is keeping up to date on assignments. Term IV grades affect participation eligibility for sports and all other extracurricular activities for Term I of the 2018-2019 school year. If you notice your child’s grade or attendance slipping, please contact their teacher, guidance counselor or assistant principal for help.
Thank you to all of the Senior Parents who attended the meeting at OHS this week. Remember, if you have questions about graduation, awards ceremony and all things senior class, Ms. Polce and Mr. Krivos, senior class advisors are here to help.
Prom is just around the corner and students and staff are looking forward to this exciting celebration!
Students attending Prom are expected to be present through block 4 on Friday, May 18. Students should have a parent note to allow an early dismissal (12:40 p.m. - end of Block 4), if one is being requested. Students who have third lunch may leave at 12:10 p.m. rather than staying at school for their lunch shift. The parent note should reflect that time. (Note: this is a PARCC testing day, so times are adjusted from the normal school day.) Bring notes in early to help out the attendance staff! There will be a check out station at the front entrance-students will sign out as they leave.
Thank you for your assistance!
All library materials, including Chromebooks, borrowed by seniors are due in to the library no later than Friday, May 18th by the end of the school day. Items out slips will be delivered to seniors in their first block classes on Monday, May 14th and seniors may bring in their library materials and Chromebooks thereafter on their own time at SET, lunch, in between classes, or before & after school. We ask that students return their own materials and do NOT ask other students, teachers or staff to do so in the event we have questions about missing or damaged items.
Any fines for lost or damaged library materials and Chromebooks owed by seniors are due by the end of the day on Friday, May 25th.
Checks (no cash, please) can be made out to the OHS Library for library materials and brought to the OHS Library Help Desk during school hours; a receipt will be issued. For Chromebook obligations, please make checks (no cash, please) out to Oakdale High School and bring them to the OHS Library Help Desk for a receipt, as well.
If you have any questions, please call the Library Help Desk directly at 240-566-9690 and talk to Mrs. Owen or Mrs. Murdoch.
Students are expected to ride their assigned bus each day. Students should not be riding another bus unless it is an emergency. If an emergency occurs, a signed parent note must be turned into the front office from both students. A bus pass will be issued to the guest rider. If there are any questions, please contact the school.
Lifetouch will have three sessions for Senior Portraits. If you cannot make any of these sessions, please contact Lifetouch directly to schedule your portraits at a Lifetouch Studio (800-445-1189). Only formal senior portraits taken with Lifetouch will be included in the 2019 Yearbook. Concerns or questions contact the yearbook advisor, Ms. Pyles at amy.pyles@fcps.org.
