Last week, I challenged students and staff on twitter to #WhatsYour17 to perform acts of kindness in honor of those who lost their lives on March 14. I was excited to talk with our Leadership Seminar students who created the @OHSWhatsYour17 twitter account to promote acts of kindness in our community. To start this initiative they created a poster for each person who died at Marjory Stoneman High School (MSDHS) and requested that students and staff add a post it to commemorate an act of kindness they gave or received. Some talented art students created a banner, signed by the OHS student body and staff, and sent it to MSDHS last week. And still more students are writing notes of encouragement that will be sent to MSDHS later this week. I am proud of the leadership that many students have shown—taking time to remember the victims in Florida and promoting school safety. I encourage you to follow these student leaders via twitter @OHSWhatsYour17!
OHS Spring Musical
"SHREK"
". . . There was a little ogre named Shrek." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.
Based on the Oscar-winning Dreamworks Animation film, Shrek the Musical finds it way to the Oakdale Stage for a limited time on April 19, 20 and 21. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage and proves there's more to the story than meets the ears.

Students are expected to ride their assigned bus each day. Students should not be riding another bus unless it is an emergency. If an emergency occurs, a signed parent note must be turned into the front office from both students. A bus pass will be issued to the guest rider. If there are any questions, please contact the school.
Pre-engineering 3 students are currently working on two different projects:
One group is building a working hovercraft that will transport a student to a robot which must be programmed to load the hovercraft. Students must design the electrical control system so that it locks the hovercraft in place, de-energizes the hovercraft, and triggers a warning light. The hovercraft itself must be maneuverable and have adequate hovering and propulsion capabilities.
Two other groups are building a recycling sorter. 4 different types of marbles (different colors and materials) are used to simulate recyclable materials. These 4 marbles must be sorted using a robot that students build out of VEX Robotics components and other materials. Students must program the robot (using a version of C) and use sensors to distinguish between the various marbles in a set amount of time.
