It's strawberry time!!! The Oakdale FFA Chapter is taking orders for fresh Florida strawberries. Orders are currently being taken with delivery planned for the week of March 5th (Stay tuned for delivery date!). Orders may be placed on-line through http://freshfruitorder.org/OakdaleFFA until February 25th or by sending your order with payment to Mrs. Welty at OHS by Friday, February 23rd. Checks can be made to OHS FFA.
Strawberries are sold by the flat (8 qts.) for $29, 1/2 flat (4 qts) for $15, and 2 qts for $8.
Chase away the winter blahs by making some jam, putting them in the freezer, or eating them fresh!
All profits will be supporting the chapter's attendance at the Regional Leadership Conference held in March. Place your order soon--there won't be strawberries in the Florida fields forever!!
Valentine's Day was made more special at OHS with the Bear Necessities rose sale. Students in Horticulture 1 and 2 processed and constructed 100 roses that were purchased by students and staff and delivered throughout the building. The students did an outstanding job of learning what it takes to prepare for, market, and conduct a floral sale.
Next week the Oakdale FFA Chapter will be joining with almost 700,000 other FFA members across the nation in celebration of National FFA Week. The National FFA Organization is the nations largest youth organization that works to instill premier leadership, personal growth, and career success in its members. The members of the Oakdale Chapter will be participating in different activities throughout the week in celebration of FFA and its membership.
On Tuesday, February 20th, the officers and advisor of the Oakdale FFA Chapter will be traveling to Annapolis to share the importance of agriculture education and FFA membership with elected officials. They will be touring Government House, meeting with Maryland Farm Bureau members, and observing legislative sessions. They will also be meeting personally with Maryland senators and congressional leaders to share their experiences and promote the value of agriculture education and FFA programs.
After reviewing the verbs ser and estar, Spanish 3 students demonstrated their knowledge of the major differences between the two with a fun activity. Using a graphic organizer with rules and conjugations, students drew a picture of a trip to the beach with several examples that illustrated ser or estar. Then, they wrote a story to describe the picture using ser and estar. Finally, students shared their creations in small groups. Even though students didn't have much time to complete the assignment, the quality of their writing and the creativity (and talent!) of the drawings amazed Sra. Brown.
