Summer Opportunity for Students: Inquiry Approach to Teaching STEM
This course will provide an opportunity to explore teaching as a career, and plan and teach an inquiry-based science or mathematics lesson. The cost of the course is only $35.00.

The introductory course is designed to recruit prospective science and math teachers. We’re reaching out to our local community to identify participants who are passionate about teaching science and math. Our long-term goal is to address the critical shortage of highly-qualified STEM teachers in Maryland.
Course Description:
Explore STEM teaching and learning; classroom complexity; and develop teaching skills through self-paced modules, discussion boards, and virtual instruction. Participants will explore/understand the fundamentals of inquiry teaching, observe, plan and teach a student-centered STEM lesson.
What are the benefits of enrolling in the course?
· Receive one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit issued by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
· Receive one UMD Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and digital certificate (included in the $35.00 fee)
· Gain insight into admissions and certification options at UMD
· Highlight the course in job applications and interviews, and college essays
· Receive instruction from TT faculty and local high school STEM teachers
What experiences will participants receive?
· Plan an inquiry-based science or math elementary classroom lesson
· Observe exemplary teaching videos
· A weekly workload commitment of 2-3 hours
· Build a community with course participants and UMD faculty
· Use virtual technology to teach a 20-minute student-centered lesson

Pre-registration opens: Thursday, April 7 Deadline to pre-register: Completed forms must be turned in to your school counselor by 3 p.m. on Monday, June 6. Enrollment is limited and many course sections fill up quickly. Submissions are processed on a first come, first served basis.
The Senior Survey has been assigned to students as a task in Naviance. This is a questionnaire designed to gather data related to each student's high school experience and post-secondary plans.
Completing this survey also ensures that final senior transcripts are sent electronically to the college the student is attending.
Please continue to also update college decision information in Naviance.
Please also update the college you are attending under "College I am attending" - found just under the "colleges I'm applying to" list.

Accessible Seating
There are several types of seats in Knott Arena. Most seats are stadium style, requiring guests to climb up stairs. Some seats have backs while others are bleachers.
Additionally, folding chairs with some padding are available on the floor and can be reserved upon request by persons who cannot walk up stairs or who wish to remain in their wheelchairs.
We will seat up to 2 additional family members (total of 3) in the accessible seating area, if it is requested in advance.
If you have guests who will require special seating on the floor of the arena, please complete the form below and submit. There are no special tickets for this section. All guests will need to use one of the 6 tickets provided to each graduate. Oakdale High School does not have access to wheelchairs. If a person uses a wheelchair, you must provide your own.
For families who need a Sign Language Interpreter
All of the guests will be able to sit together (these families are not limited to 2 seats).

Oakdale High School is not authorized to issue Disability parking permits (Guests must have an official MVA Disability Placard).
There are a number of graduation guests who have walking difficulties.
Guests with walking difficulties and their escorts should be dropped off at the door to the entrance of the Knott Arena, if at all possible.

Selective Service: A reminder that under federal law, virtually all men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Students can register on-line at www.sss.gov
NATIONAL SCHOOL FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAM Breakfast and lunch meals are FREE for ALL FCPS students for the 2021-2022 school year. Breakfast and lunch are available on days when students are in school. Please note that snacks, ice cream, and drinks (other than milk) are not free and must be purchased from the cafeteria.
We encourage families to complete the free and reduced-price meal benefits application even though all children receive meals at no charge because the USDA provides funds that support the nutrition program based on your child's eligibility. Eligibility for free or reduced-price meal reimbursement is based on the following annual income eligibility guidelines effective from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
If you have previously received free and reduced-price meal benefits, you must re-apply for the 2021-22 school year.

PROOF OF RESIDENCY
Have you moved? Did you know that whenever you move, you must provide your child’s school with a current (within 30 days) proof of residency? This is a Maryland state requirement. Acceptable proof of residency is as follows (only one of the following is required):
NOTE: We are unable to update the address in our system until we receive a copy of the new proof of residency. It typically takes 3-5 business days for the transportation department to assign a bus after the update is made in the student system.

On the student’s last day of the student’s attendance at OHS, the student will be asked to return all financial obligations such as: Chromebook (to Mrs. Connolly), books (to Teachers), etc… and they will be provided with a transfer packet which will include but not limited to a copy of:

Mental Health Resources The Maryland Department of Health released a “Student and Young Adult Resource Guide for Coping During COVID-19”. Click here to see it. It’s a handy, comprehensive guide created for secondary and college students to spotlight issues and find resources on how to help themselves and each other through the continued adjustment to pandemic-created changes. Many of the resources also support elementary students. The FCPS Mental Health Matters page can be found here. Students and family members who are experiencing difficulty may wish to contact the Frederick County Mental Health Association (MHA).
Walk-In Behavioral Health Services The Walk-in Service has resumed seeing clients in person at their office located at 226 South Jefferson Street in Frederick for those who prefer to see someone face to face. They are also continuing to offer their Virtual Walk-In platform for those who feel more comfortable with that. The MHA's call center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From intervention, a caring and supporting voice at a moment of crisis, to connecting to resources and information, dial 211.
