AFA - Academy for the Fine Arts Shadowing - Students interested in pursuing the arts after high school should consider shadowing the Academy for the Fine Arts which is housed right here in Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. The AFA provides an arts career pathway for students from any FCPS high school in the areas of art, dance, music, and theatre. Some classes may be taken for college credit. The AFA offers one shadow day a month beginning September 25. Students who plan to audition this year must submit their application by January 24.

Financial aid experts will be on hand to help you step by step through this free online application process. With multiple time slots available and a chance to win up to a $2,000 scholarship, these workshops focus on providing each applicant with personalized one-on-one assistance and an opportunity to access to the largest source of federal funding for higher education. Completion of a survey is required to be entered into scholarship drawing.

Each year the DAR awards over $150,000 through more than 25 scholarships to young individuals for their outstanding academic achievements. DAR Scholarships are offered for a wide range of disciplines including: history, law, medical, nursing, music, educations and many more. The various DAR scholarships each have different requirements and procedures which must be followed to apply for scholarship.
