News from the Principal's Desk
Dear THS Families,
Today is an exciting day at Tuscarora and a buzz is definitely in the air. Spirit Week and Homecoming Activities are an excellent opportunity for students to show their Titan Pride, yell and cheer loudly at a Pep Rally and a homecoming game, and simply enjoy being in high school. We’ve had excellent participation in our dress up days, and we expect a great turn out at the Parade/Fangate and Homecoming Game tonight. This is a family friendly event. Bring your younger children to the parade on Ballenger Creek at 5:00PM, the Fangate afterward in the bus parking lot and the Varsity Football Game vs. Frederick (it will be a good one!) at 6:30pm. It’s a proud week to be a Titan!
Moving ahead in the calendar to mid October also means that we’re approaching the midpoint of the first term; it’s important to remember that students sometimes get “stuck”. Their grade is not where they want it to be and they’re not sure what to do next to make a difference. As parents, the first and most important step you take is to check your child’s HAC account, to touch base about grades. Encouraging them to be their own best advocate and speaking with their teacher about what they can do proactively and making a plan is the next step. Finally, this is where the beauty of the daily schedule at Tuscarora comes in. All students have a 35 minute period each day from 10:20 to 10:55 called FLEX, where they can meet with a teacher of their choosing, get extra help, make up assignments or simply work on whatever needs to be done to improve their grades. FLEX works when students use it to their full advantage. Help your student make a plan for FLEX and ask them how they are using this time.
Enjoy the Homecoming weekend! Christopher Berry Principal

Each year the Maryland Humanities Organization offers the One Maryland One Book initiative. This year's title, What the Eyes Don't See, is sure to spark a lot of very strong emotions. You won't want to put it down. Parents & Students please join us for a casual book discussion of this title on Wednesday, October 30, after school for parents, students and teachers. Then on Sunday, November 3 at 6 PM in Hagerstown at the Maryland, Theatre Dr. Mona will be speaking for free.
