News from the Principal's Desk
It's hard to believe that graduation is over! After weeks and months of preparation, the actual ceremony itself feel as if it happens in a blink. Today was a terrific culmination of four year for this class. Congratulations to Kirsten Snyder and Ryan Olson, who received the 2018 Principal's Award for Scholarship, Service to the Community and Character. Both are excellent examples (among many in this class) who have been stellar Titans in their time at Tuscarora. Department Awards were also bestowed at the Senior Awards Assembly on May 31, and the winners are listed below in the Kudos Section. Many deserving seniors were recognized for the legacies that they left in our various departments. If you come into the Main Office entrance, you'll soon see these students in their cap and gowns on our photo "Wall of Fame"
We graduated 372 senior Titans. We had... 114 students with highest honors 30 students with high honors 33 students with honors
The message below is a portion of my speech to the graduates and their families today:
I’d like to speak for just a couple of minutes directly to you, the graduates. I hope in some small way to give you a little something to think about before you leave us. For a few moments, consider something you probably don’t think about often - your name. That’s right… your name. One of Shakespeare’s characters asked us in one of his dramas “What’s in a name?” to make the point that it really wasn’t important. I would argue the opposite. I was in a meeting recently where everyone was asked to think about the importance of their name – where it came from, who we might be named after and what translated meaning it might have. I would offer to you that you name is everything.
You may remember over the past several days as we practiced your walking across this stage that we took great care to pronounce your name exactly the way it is supposed to be said. In some cases, we had to stop and write it phonetically to get it just right, because it matters. And I suggested to you that the people for whom it will matter most are seated out here right now. Your parents, 17 or 18 years ago, as you drew in your first breath, took great care to choose just the right name to represent you. They whispered it to you, later coaxing you to repeat it back to them. They’ve called it thousands of times, sometimes yelling it! But they have been beside you on this journey and they have waited a long time hear it spoken today as you are about to cross this stage. So, parents and family: this is as much your day as it is a celebration of your children. Take the time to not only lift up your graduate, but a quiet moment also to celebrate your hard work, and the unconditional love you’ve provided. Whether you chaperoned the fourth grade field trip, brought a forgotten lunch to school, or just calmly answered the phone or the email when we needed to put out heads together, we at Tuscarora are grateful for all of you forging a working partnership with us.
Congratulations to our graduates, our staff and families for another great Titan year!
Sincerely, Christopher Berry Principal

Attendance - Keeping Track of Your Student Through HAC
We are approaching the time of year when we receive questions from parents about attendance or there are discrepancies about when a student is in school. While it is rare, it is still disconcerting when parents discover multiple days when their son/daughter has not been in a particular class or has been out part or whole days. How then can parents know about attendance. This is where the Home Access Center (HAC) is useful. Below are directions for accessing and navigating in the HAC attendance features.
Attendance Month View Page - The Attendance Month View page enables you to view your student's attendance during any month in the current school year. If your student was absent or tardy on a date, the day will display with a colored background. The Color Legend below the month indicates the type of attendance each color represents. To display the Month View page, click Attendance on the HAC menu.
Change Months - To navigate from month to month in the current year, use the arrows at the top left and right of the calendar.
View Attendance Details - To view details for a date when your student was absent or tardy, move your pointer over the day. A tooltip displays the type of attendance entered by the office or teacher for the periods affected.
Calendar Page - The Calendar page provides a month view of the following information on your student, class assignments, class events and activity events. To display the Calendar page, click Home on the HAC menu, then click the Calendar tab.
Customize Calendar Information - To hide or display the Filter pane, click the Filter icon. To include or exclude information on the calendar, check or uncheck the appropriate boxes in the Filter pane on the left. To collapse the pane's Filters, Calendars, or Values section, click the section's down symbol. To expand a collapsed section, click the section's up symbol.
Change Calendar Views - To display other months, use the arrows to navigate forward or backward a month at a time. To display the week view for the current week, click Week. To display other weeks in the calendar's week view, use the arrows to navigate forward or backward a week at a time. To display the day view for the current day, click Day. To display other days, use the arrows to navigate forward or backward a day at a time. To return to the current month, week, or day in the above views, click Today.
