The Danes Are Coming! Danish Exchange Students Need Host Families
Tuscarora High School will be hosting students from Denmark 's Alssundgymnasiet Sønderborg. We have 27 high school students that will be visiting THS March 28 - April 1, 2019 and we are looking for host families that could have one or two wonderful students stay with them. So far a number of families have stepped forward, but we still need host families for 10 more students!
Students are looking to experience life in the United States and do the things that typical teenagers do - go to the mall, movies, sporting events, etc. Students speak English and will cover their own expenses and will attend school with their host student on Friday and Monday. Please contact Mrs. Creter at 240-236-6689 or jennifer.creter@fcps.org for more information.

Countywide Presentation on Opioid Addiction
All Are Welcome to Learn About Substance Use Disorders At the Free Opioid and Heroin Information Night Tuesday, March 12 5 PM Movie with Guest Presentations Following Middletown High Auditorium*
Featuring the Award-Winning Locally Made Video with Stories from the Front Lines of Addiction Heroin's Grip See the trailer: http://heroinsgrip.com
Background: On December 22, 2018, Governor Hogan renewed an executive order declaring a state of emergency pertaining to the need to control and eliminate the heroin, opioid, and fentanyl overdose crisis.
On January 29, 2019 The Frederick News Post ran an article that Frederick County Executive Director Jan Gardner wrote, titled The Heroin and Opioid Challenge. She stated that in Frederick County, "on average, there is one overdose every day and one fatality every week." She describes the heroin and opioid addiction challenge as one of the most significant challenges in the county, state, and nation.
Staggering statistics about overdoses and loss of life continue to dominate headlines with no sign of the crisis subsiding.
The Middletown High School PTSA is sponsoring this collaborative event with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, the Frederick County Health Department, and Heroin's Grip producer Conrad Weaver.

Two Titan Students Attain the Rank of Eagle Scout
Congratulations to Tuscarora Titan Senior Daniel Mulcahy and Sophomore Brandon Spills for both attaining the rank of Eagle Scout! Both were recognized at the December Court of Honor held by Troop 792, which is sponsored by Calvary United Methodist Church. To attain the rank of Eagle, a Scout must earn 21 merit badges, several in specified areas, complete a service project that benefits a religious institution, school or community, and fulfill certain leadership responsibilities. Nationally, only 6% of Scouts attain the rank of Eagle. Congratulation to Brandon and Daniel on the persistence, hard work and leadership that is required of this award!
