From the Desk of the Principal
We had a very good week with the administration of the SAT on Wednesday. 94% of our Juniors were present on that day and ready to go when the testing began. This was actually a little higher than our typical attendance on an average day. In speaking with Juniors, it was nice to see that some of them understood that taking the SAT, especially more than once, was more than just about being admitted to a four-year college or university. Students that attain a 480 on the English portion and a 530 on the Math portion of the SAT are exempt from taking zero credit remedial courses at FCC. In addition, these same scores will qualify Tuscarora students for the FCC Dual Enrollment Program, bypassing the Accuplacer test. Finally, there is always value to practice. If this wasn’t a student’s best score, they had one free opportunity that they didn’t have before. We are fortunate that FCPS saw the value of having all of its juniors take the SAT this year. It will help open doors of opportunity that might have been closed, or help open them sooner than they might been otherwise.
This is a reminder that Monday, March 11th is the day that grade interim reports will be issued to students in Flex. Students will receive a hard copy, and parents are encouraged to access grades in HAC. The mid-term.

Danish Exchange Students Need Host Families!
Tuscarora High School will be hosting students from Denmark 's Alssundgymnasiet Sønderborg. We have 27 high school students that will be visiting THS March 28 - April 1, 2019 and we are looking for host families that could have one or two wonderful students stay with them.
Students are looking to experience life in the United States and do the things that typical teenagers do - go to the mall, movies, sporting events, etc. Students speak English and will cover their own expenses and will attend school with their host student on Friday and Monday. Please contact Mrs. Creter at 240-236-6689 or jennifer.creter@fcps.org for more information.

Motter and Siebert Named Staff Members of the Month
A belated congratulations to Mr. Motter, English and Mr. Siebert, Learning Lab Coordinator, who were named "January Staff Member of the Month." Mr. Motter teachers English 10, as well as THS's SAT Preparation course. The students who nominated him remarked that he was a demanding, but warm teacher and coach, and that life lessons were always part of the experience in his class. Mr. Siebert is the always-accommodating Titan Learn Lab Coordinator. He assists students with online coursework, and orients them to a variety of classes with skill and care. In nominating him, one student remarked, " Mr. Siebert goes out of his way for each one of his students, past or present, to ensure they have everything they need to succeed." Congratulations to both of these outstanding Titans for contributing to our student's success!
