From the Desk of the Principal
The end of the semester brings with it that moment of accountability with grades. The “vibe” the last couple of days has been one where students have been scrambling to finish projects, taking that last benchmark, making up the last assignments, all to achieve the grade that they want. This has also been an End of Semester Spirit Week which has also had things hopping. The picture gallery at the end of the newsletter captures just some of the fun from this week.
Beyond the classroom, it’s also been an eventful week that sometimes makes our head spin. Here are just a few of the ways that I am very proud of the service, achievement, and creativity of our students just this week:
Our students rise to the occasion and make us proud every day. Way to go Titans!
This is a reminder that tonight is Senior Night for our Marching Band, Cheerleaders and Varsity Football players. I’ve had the good fortune to participate in many Senior Nights for fall sports in the past couple of weeks. These are wonderful and sometimes bittersweet moments for students and families, realizing that their career in high school sports, cheer and music is coming to a close. Please join us tonight for the game and recognition of special senior groups!
Finally, if you have not already, I would encourage you to take a close look at the platforms of your candidates for school board in next Tuesday’s election. There is always a good deal at stake with our system in these races, and I would encourage you to choose candidates that you believe can lead us to greater results for our families.
Sincerely,
Christopher Berry Principal

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award Each Frederick County Public School has a representative for this aware. The school representative must possess and demonstrate the following: promote fairness, celebrate diversity, build a better future for all and exemplify the Pillars of Character Counts: Responsibility, Caring, Fairness, Trustworthiness, Citizenship and Respect.
We have a nomination and his name is Treven Carter, senior. “Treven Carter demonstrates leadership in the classes that I have with him; American Popular Music Studies and Introduction to Theater. Each course is very different with a very different classroom culture and Treven is consistent and persistent is both courses. He isn't afraid to participate and voice his opinions, creating a safe learning environment for all of his peers through his positive example. It is not always easy to go against your peers and be able to stand your own ground; but Treven does this all the time, even when his peers aren't as supportive. Treven is a great student who demonstrates responsibility every day when he comes prepared to class. He is respectful to all classmates, despite their differences and he is always trying to make improvements as a student and as a person.”
All Star Award Meghan Schickton was recognized with the FCPS All Star Award. This award program is designed to provide recognition to employees who have helped FCPS achieve any of the school system’s five aspirational goals or supported system efforts for the priorities identified for each goal. Meghan was nominated for her work on Aspirational Goal 4: FCPS will nurture relationships with families and the entire community, sharing responsibility for student success and demonstrating pride in all aspects of our school system. Congratulations and thanks again to Meghan Schickton, an FCPS All Star educator!!! Teacher Shout Out Kudos to Mary Bishop for not only proctoring the Microsoft Office Certification Test for THS students, but proctoring for students from other schools when they arrive at Tuscarora to take the test! Her flexibility and support of schools programs is exceptional! Thank you!

Attention: Students in grades 9-10 The FCPS Career and Technology Center (CTC) invites you to "shadow" a CTC program there.
A specialized FCPS high school, the CTC offers 25 career preparatory programs, most open to students in grades 10-12. Here's a link to programs offered: https://education.fcps.org/ctc/programs.
Sign ups are opened for Shadowing appointments that will begin in November. Students: A shadow experience provides an opportunity to experience a program of interest first-hand. You spend two class periods at the CTC in the program for which you might apply. You participate in classroom activities and are able to meet with and talk to the instructor and current students. The shadow experience is also a part of the CTC application process and acceptance criteria. Instructors evaluate students during the shadow experience on use of time, enthusiasm and attitude, how well you follow directions, and your aptitude specific to the program being shadowed. Skill level and knowledge of the specific career field are not as important as a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!
The process to shadow a CTC program has changed this year. To participate, THS students must:
*STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING UP ALL MISSED WORK. Students will be issued a bus pass for the assigned date and time (AM/PM) to ride the bus to the CTC. Some programs take longer than others to assign shadow times due to the number of students interested in the program. There is chance it may take up to a few weeks to receive a shadowing date and time.
