News from Principal Christopher Berry
It's hard to believe that its already been a week since the Class of 2018 Graduation. Last Friday was a terrific culmination of four year for this class. Congratulations to Kyle Shreve and Thomas Xie, who received the 2018 Principal's Award for Schlarship, Service to the Community and Character. Both are two excellent examples (among many in this class) who have been stellar Titans in their time at Tuscarora. Department Awards were also bestowed at the Senior Awards Assembly on May 31. Many deserving seniors were recognized for the legacies that they left in our various departments. If you come into the Main Office entrance, you'll see these students in their cap and gowns on our photo "Wall of Fame"
I would encourage you to take a look at the many photos of our graduation at this website: https://lightroom.adobe.com/shares/6bada7598bd44c84904a1a53991cf318
We graduated 352 senior Titans. We had... 89 students with highest honors 39 students with high honors 41 students with honors
One senior, Andrew Johnson, had not only perfect attendance during his entire high school but for his entire public school career! The message below is a portion of my speech to the graduates and their families last Friday:
Graduates of the Class of 2018 of Tuscarora High School. As you gathered for our rehearsal yesterday in a hot and sticky gymnasium and spent a final few minutes with each other in your cap and gowns, one of you smiled at me and said, “This is really going to happen, isn’t it?” Indeed it is. Despite the stifling heat you were relaxed and happy with good reason. Collectively you have earned million dollars in scholarship offers and the offers are still coming in. 46% of you will have you names announced in a few minutes with academic honors of various levels. You have made significant contributions to the Tuscarora community, and you have kept us on our toes. You have been a smart, creative and funny class, 347 strong, and I am very proud to serve as your principal.
Also, right from the beginning, allow me to thank the parents and guardians of the Class of 2018 for sharing your children with us and for your support as we’ve all worked together. This is as much your day as it is a celebration of your children. Take the time to not only lift up your graduate, but a quiet moment also to celebrate your hard work, and the unconditional love you’ve provided. One mother, whose youngest of three children is graduating today put it this way: “I’ve been coming to Tuscarora just about every week for nearly 14 years. It is going to be very strange not to.” Whether you chaperoned trip, manned the concession stands, or just calmly answered the phone or the email when we needed to put out heads together, we at Tuscarora are grateful for all of you forging a working partnership with us.
Congratulations to our graduates, our staff and families for another great Titan year!
