News from Principal Christopher Berry
The last week with seniors is exciting, energetic, and bittersweet- all at once! For the students, it is the culmination of four years of hard work, and the excitement that the moment that they have waited for has finally arrived. For the parents, it is the realization that the cute kindergartener they put on the bus nearly thirteen years ago is on the cusp of adulthood. And for staff, it is very affirming to look at how these young adults have progressed as students- their abilities, their willingness to take risks and perhaps the passions they have discovered along the way. Despite the anxiety, challenges, and “bumps in the road” that most students experience, high school remains a wonderful time of life. Tuscarora’s Senior Class of 2018 has made us all proud with their many accomplishments and service.
As we move to the celebration that is graduation, a few reminders….all seniors must be present for ALL THREE days of graduation rehearsal, beginning on Tuesday at 8 AM SHARP. Students who arrive late will be required to remain for an additional time after the rehearsal. Punctuality is everything during this time. In addition, all financial obligation must be cleared with the finance office prior to Thursday in order to receive graduation tickets. If a senior still has a financial obligation, they will be made aware of it on Tuesday, May 29.
Families attending graduation are reminded that you must have tickets for every person attending the ceremony. All graduates receive eight tickets and are encouraged to network with friends if they need extras. The ceremony begins PROMPTLY at 2PM. Please arrive early, allow time for parking and getting settled.
A reminder of parents of underclass students about Friday, June 1 (Graduation Day): The majority of the staff of Tuscarora High School attends the graduation ceremony. Underclass students will be permitted to leave school after second block on Friday, June 1 at approximately 10:15 AM if they bring back a signed permission form from their parent. This permission form was distributed today during FLEX, and must be signed/returned to the FLEX Teacher no later than Thursday, June 30. Any student who does not return a permission form will be expected to remain in the building until 2:15, and marked absent if not in class. Students who leave at 10:15 are permitted to walk home or be picked up. Busses, however will run at the normal time of 2:15. Any student who remains in school will be placed in a supervised study hall in the cafeteria. We very much look forward to celebrating with friends, family and the graduates of the class of 2018 next Friday at Mount St. Mary’s University.
Sincerely, Christopher Berry Principal

Senior Survey Many seniors have already completed the senior survey about their future plans this past week. On Tuesday at Graduation rehearsal, any senior who has not completed this survey will be provided the opportunity to complete this task. What is the purpose of the Senior Survey? The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Career and Technical Education Division collects information from all graduating seniors across the state of Maryland. The purpose is to collect and report data related to post-secondary plans of seniors. The information collected by MSDE is used to evaluate the programming students receive to ensure that student needs are being met or if program changes need to be made. In addition to the questions provided by MSDE, Frederick County Public School students are asked to respond to an additional three questions related to the services provided by school counselors.
Specific questions about the Senior Survey can be directed to Jennifer L. Griffin, Specialist; Career and Technical Education, Maryland State Department of Education.
