News from Principal Christopher Berry
As spring Break and the Third Term conclude, we are definitely headed into the home stretch of the year. And with the recent warming trend, Frederick County is once again working on the realignment of Ballenger Creek Pike. Lately, there have been daily traffic changes that are adding to commute times, traffic backup and the possibility of accidents. Please use caution when travelling in the area and around Tuscarora, and allow for a few extra minutes in the morning for drop-off if you bring your child to school. Please also encourage your novice driver to take their time and pay close attention to the traffic pattern. While we’re on the subject of student drivers, as we have added additional drivers throughout the school year, we’ve noticed an uptick in the number of students parking cars that do not have a parking permit. Parking in the student lot is a privilege, not an absolute right. Students need to register their car and pay the permit fee in the Main Office. Beginning on Monday, cars will be ticketed and parking privileges will be revoked if families have not registered their cars. This is an important safety issue for our community. We had a great turnout for our midweek Senior Parent Metting on Wednesday. I appreciate having the opportunity to speak with parents about the joys and challenges that come for seniors and their families as they enter the last term of their public school career. We discussed senior events, prom, graduation rehearsal, ceremony tickets and a whole host of other topics. If you happened to miss the meeting, be sure to check out the senior class webpage, which is chock full of all of the information that we reviewed. The link is: http://tuscaroraseniors.wixsite.com/ths-seniors-2018 Finally, this upcoming week is an annual event in the Tuscarora community that has great meaning. Kaylan Wallen, a student journalist for the Titan Times Newspaper aptly described the event this way:
Every year Tuscarora hosts The Empty Bowls Banquet. This is an opportunity for kids from our feeder elementary schools and their families, as well as high schoolers to come out and show support for the community. This is done in the hopes that we can fight against hunger in the Frederick area. This year it will be held on April 11th in the auditorium, and for the price of admissions you’re allowed to choose a bowl made by Tuscarora ceramic students. The bowls represent the need to fight childhood hunger and all the proceeds go towards the local food bank in the Adamstown area. Many of the THS ceramics students, along with Mr. Neuland and Ms. Reed, contribute ceramic pieces for the event, but a lot of the work also comes from students in the elementary and middles schools in the THS community. Thank you to Mr. Neuland, Ms. Reed and all of the THS students who contribute to ceramics, our student performers under the direction of Mr. Moore and Mr. Karos , and especially Ms. Mummert who lovingly drives this event every year. This is a great event and I am looking forward to my first opportunity to raise awareness and money with you. Have a wonderful weekend! Christopher Berry Principal
