From Mr. Berry’s Desk
The second semester has gotten off to a great start this week. This is something energizing about new classes, new routines, and the chance to start new. But just as hard as it may seem, it is time to begin to think about course registration for 2018-19. This coming Monday, during the Flex period, students will receive their registration material and instructions on how to complete their online registration in Naviance. It is critical that students bring their Chromebooks or personal devices to begin this process during FLEX. For certain core courses, students will receive their teacher recommendations. Flex teachers will guide students in the Naviance online registration process. Courses will remain in draft from February 5-12 so that students and parents may review these 2018-2019 course selections online.
Students will also receive hard copy directions that they can bring home to parents. We’ll have many messages to students via our broadcast announcements on Monday, and we’ll put the broadcast on our webpage after Monday for parents to see. Among our messages is an important one: involve your parents and guardians in your course selection process. Parents know their children best – their strength, their challenges, their interests and their learning profile.
It is important for students to pick their course selections wisely. Their choices determine our staffing. What do we mean by that? If only a few students sign up for a particular class, that class will not be offered the following school year even if over the summer a number of students express an interest in taking that class. CHOOSE WISELY!
Tuscarora has so many elective course opportunities, as well as decisions about what level courses to take. When you look at the registration survey (signup) it may seem overwhelming. This is why it’s important to watch the video we’ll post and get help guide your child in their decisions.
Most important of all, we invite families to our live Registration Night where students and parents can receive information, talk with representatives of all of our departments, hear optional presentations on the Career and Technology Center and Dual Enrollment with FCC, college credit courses and much more. This night is not to be missed. More info is below.
We hope to see you next week!

Registration for 2018-2019 Schedule
Tuscarora High School staff have begun preparing for 2018-2019! We encourage all Titans and their parents to take an active role in creating their course schedule for next year. In addition to the wide variety of existing coursework, we are offering three new or returning courses for 2018-19. We strongly encourage our students to consider these opportunities:
SAT Prep/Money & Finance - This class is an excellent way for our upperclassmen (incoming sophomores, juniors and seniors) to prepare for college testing for one term, as well as earn their graduation requirement of financial literacy. Why pay for an outside prep program when you can achieve the same result for free during the day?
Spanish for Heritage Speakers - This is a course designed for our students who have had extensive exposure to the Spanish language and have good oral fluency.
Digital Communications (TV Production 1/2) – This is a course for students who wish to understand the technical and artistic aspects of TV and video production. Among many activities, students will produce the daily THS morning announcements.
