Message From The Principal's Desk
Dear Titan Families,
The chance to start a new semester comes with reminders for our students about expectations that we have. In an announcement this week, I encouraged students to make those good first impressions with their new teachers, and work hard to understand what their teachers use as a measure for success. In addition, I reminded them about our policy on attendance, lunch expectations and the importance of being in class on time. Please reinforce these ideas with your students, as well as other specific expectation that come with the new semester. Ask to see your teen's class syllabi, as teachers take great care to produce written explanations of course topics, grading policies and information about how their class works.
Allow me to delve deeper for a moment to discuss the importance of attendance and being on time for school. While the overwhelming majority of student arrive each day and are in class on time, we saw too many students arriving late to school, often without a written excusal note. This became some student's "normal." On-time attendance is one of the single most critical factors in student success. Arriving late to class, even by a few minutes, doesn't allow students to learn as successfully they might that day. for these reason's, we are resetting our on-time expectations. Students who do not arrive to school prior to 7:30 will at first receive a warning for the first three instances when this is the case, and then on the fourth instance, receive afterschool detention. Each additional lateness will result in addition consequences which will include removal of parking privileges and parent conference to resolve this issue. We recognize there may be situations that prevent student from being on time one or perhaps two times. However, when it becomes a daily habit, it critically impacts a student's ability to succeed. Please work to support your Titan's success by ensuring that they are on time for school each day.
Yesterday was an exciting one at Tuscarora High School as the Tuscarora Unified Boccee team once again brought home the championship! Specifically, four of the Tuscarora Teams won two Frederick County Championships, as well as a 2nd and a 3rd. Details are below in the athletic section. What a tremendous day for these athletes, as they continue their quest for additional championships! Congratulations to these inspiring Titan student athletes!

Important Yearbook Information
We have just been informed that, as of January 15th, Herff Jones will be charging an additional $5.00 per book to cover their rising costs. As such, the cost of purchasing a yearbook this year will effectively be raised by $5.00 in a few short days. If you wish to avoid the higher cost, consider ordering your book today!
On the subject of yearbook ordering, for the 2021 year, the THS yearbook program ordered the same number of books as any other year. Unfortunately, sales last year were almost non-existent and so we ended up with eight boxes of unsold books that we still had to pay for. This year, we are planning to order just 30 copies above our pre-order number.
To put this in perspective, we normally order 125 extra copies, and we typically sell out. We are drastically reducing the number of copies we purchase because we simply can’t afford to cover the costs if we have a second bad sales year in a row. The reality of this approach is that we will have only ten extra copies to sell at each lunch shift when the books arrive.
Make no mistake, this years’ book will be sold out on the first day of book sales and they will be sold first come first served and once online sales are closed, we will not be setting any books aside. If you do not pre-order you must take your chances on getting one of the ten copies we will sell in your lunch shift. Once those ten books per lunch are sold, yearbook sales for the 2022 year will be officially closed. Therefore, if you are serious about owning a copy of the 2022 yearbook, I strongly urge you to pre-order your book.
