Message From The Principal's Desk
Dear Titan Families,
The end of 1st Semester is nearly upon us. I want to congratulate students for working to successfully navigate the challenges of school. Whether you have achieved your goals or fallen short, the effort and lessons-learned can be just as important as the final tally. This is an exciting time of year. With new classes beginning next week, students have the opportunity to start fresh with their academics and their relationships. They also have the opportunity to continue the great habits they developed in the first half of the year. Encourage your child to take the time to make a good first impression in their new classes. They should strive to quickly understand what teachers expect and what they can do to learn the most and earn the best grade possible. It’s exciting to begin again; and hopefully students will see the opportunity that a new semester brings.
This is the beginning of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Weekend of Service, culminating in the federal holiday celebrating the life of this courageous and inspiring American. I spent time yesterday addressing with the Titan Community the impact and legacy of Dr. King, and the way many will remember him this weekend through acts of service. I hope you will take the time on Monday to remember the life and lessons of this great man.
The end of the semester means that students have a new schedule, and sometimes move onto new teachers. With all of the challenges of Covid, Is there a teacher this semester that has gone the extra mile for your child? A counselor or staff member who your child talks about or is the source of a dinner conversation? Did an adult write a letter of recommendation, spend extra time after school or advise a club that has made a big difference in their life? It’s a great random act of character and kindness to take time now to write that email or note expressing thanks to that staff member. Most agree that it has been a challenging time to be in education, for both students and staff. Yet this simple act of kindness goes very far with those who work with your children every day to make a difference in their lives. How to reach a teacher via email? Simple, go on the THS website, find their first and last name with a period (.) in between first and last, and add the address “@fcps.org”
With snow in the forecast, please be careful, and enjoy a long weekend inside.
With Titan Pride,
Christopher Berry
Principal

Important Yearbook Information
We have just been informed that, as of January 15th, Herff Jones will be charging an additional $5.00 per book to cover their rising costs. As such, the cost of purchasing a yearbook this year will effectively be raised by $5.00 in a few short days. If you wish to avoid the higher cost, consider ordering your book today!
On the subject of yearbook ordering, for the 2021 year, the THS yearbook program ordered the same number of books as any other year. Unfortunately, sales last year were almost non-existent and so we ended up with eight boxes of unsold books that we still had to pay for. This year, we are planning to order just 30 copies above our pre-order number.
To put this in perspective, we normally order 125 extra copies, and we typically sell out. We are drastically reducing the number of copies we purchase because we simply can’t afford to cover the costs if we have a second bad sales year in a row. The reality of this approach is that we will have only ten extra copies to sell at each lunch shift when the books arrive.
Make no mistake, this years’ book will be sold out on the first day of book sales and they will be sold first come first served and once online sales are closed, we will not be setting any books aside. If you do not pre-order you must take your chances on getting one of the ten copies we will sell in your lunch shift. Once those ten books per lunch are sold, yearbook sales for the 2022 year will be officially closed. Therefore, if you are serious about owning a copy of the 2022 yearbook, I strongly urge you to pre-order your book.
To order your book go to:

Congratulations to our Students of the Week for Week #15.
Scholar of the Week
Brenna Lewis Nominated by Mr. Zitrick
Brenna's class work in Modern World History is always of the highest standard. I always look forward to reading Brenna's responses because of the depth of knowledge she consistently demonstrates. Brenna will bring a perspective to a historical event that I may have overlooked myself. I wanted to acknowledge Brenna's work and provide just a bit of praise where so much is due.
Character of the Week
Kylee McHenry Nominated by Dr. Lipchock
Kylee always arrives with a positive attitude. She works on whatever I've asked her to do for the day and easily gets along with any other student during group work. She's a pleasure to have in class!
