Message From The Principal's Desk
Dear Titan Families,
Today was one of those "mile markers" in the academic year, as report cards went hoe with students. While we are already several days into the new semester, I would encourage you to talk with your child about what improvements they can make, as well as goals for the new semester. I also feel a conversation like this is best framed by asking (beyond grades) what your child feel they are learning, what new skills they might have or what areas they have discovered in which they have an interest. Allow grades simply to be the conversation starter, not the be all, end all.
Last Friday was a bittersweet "farewell" at Tuscarora with the departure of Assistant Principal Robert Nutter. Mr. Nutter is relocating to Harrisburg and will take a new position. In a short year and a half, his presence was felt and students grew to trust him as an advocate for their success. We wish him well in his new adventures. I am pleased to announce that we will have a skilled acting assistant principal for the foreseeable future to step in for Mr. Nutter. Ms. Laura Taylor is a familiar presence at THS, having served as a mathematics teacher and most recently as Data Coach for us. In this role she has been the guiding force for a number of schoolwide initiatives, including work with our SST Team and 9th grade initiatives last year, a leader in the implementation of Flex during virtual and concurrent instruction and working with teachers and students. Ms. Taylor brings a wealth of previous leadership experience to this new role, beginning with her education in Educational Administration and Supervision. She has previously served as an acting assistant principal and central office instructional lead, observing and working with teachers in various schools. She will assume responsibility for students with last names Do - Le. Welcome to our leadership team, Ms. Taylor!
We continue to feel the excitment as several of our fall athletic teams are progressing in the playoff process, including Boys Soccer, Field Hockey, and Football. Our Golf Team and Cross Country team have had EXCELLENT showings in the regional and state meets. And our Girls Soccer and Volleyball Teams had excellent season that ended just short in the playoffs. For the nearly 300 student athletes this has been a most successful season on and off the playing field, course, and court. And the fun continues... keep supporting our teams! More info in the athletic section below.
With Titan Pride,
Christopher Berry
Principal

Titan Athletics
Region Champs
This may look the same as last week, but it is so different and so exciting! On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Titan field Hockey and Boys Soccer both continued their playoff runs and won the 3A West Regions. Both teams are headed to States and hosting! State Quarterfinals for Field Hockey are Friday (today) at 3:30pm vs. FH powerhouse Westminster. On Saturday, boy’s soccer will host Atholton of Howard County on the turf at Middletown at 5pm! Both of our awesome Cross Country teams also advanced to States, with the boys finishing 6th and the girls capturing 4th in the region. They both will finish their seasons next Saturday the 13th at Hereford. Football heads to Urbana for our 1st playoff game in several years, tonight at 7:00 pm… get out your parka’s and come support all of these AMAZING student-athletes! Girls Soccer capped off a fantastic season by winning the Central Maryland Conference Championship, and made it all the way to the regional final before falling to Oakdale in the Regional Final. And Volleyball lost a heartbreaking 5-set match full of a roller coaster of momentum swings and emotion to Linganore. We are proud of our teams for all they have accomplished this season as we have returned to sports!
Winter Sports Begins in just over a week!!!! Get registered and turn in your physical NOW. Tryouts are Monday November 15th. You must register BEFORE tryouts. BOE requires vaccinations for ALL interscholastic extra-curricular activities
As a reminder, the Board of Education recently passed a regulation that all winter student-athletes will need to be vaccinated or undergo weekly testing to participate – the deadline for this is going to be December 6th . We do NOT have the specific logistics on this yet, but central office is working on it and as soon as we know more we will pass it on. We do believe weekly testing will happen in the schools. Please have conversations with your family and student-athlete now about how to best take care of this so it does not affect their eligibility to participate. Thank you.
