Message From The Principal's Desk
Dear Titan Families,
Welcome to autumn! While the calendar may say that fall is just beginning, we are at the midterm point of the 1st Term. Midterm grades will be published next week, with a hard copy sent only to those students currently earning a "D" or "F" for a particular class. If your student's grades are not what you had hoped they would be, the good news is this - there are still five weeks to go in the term. Encourage your child to seek help from their teacher during the Flex Period. Secondly, Titan tutoring, both in person and virtually, is in place at the schedule below - your own personal tutor, free of charge! Have you priced private tutoring recently? Lastly, Schoology not only allows you to access your child's grades, but also allows you access the exact assignment, resources and grading expectations for all assessments. Teachers invest a good deal of time so that you have this information at your fingertips. Check out the full picture of Schoology.
Even with an unexpected day off, this has been a busy week at Tuscarora, with our normal classes, evening meetings, sports, performing arts, and practices just about every afternoon and evening. It's always exciting to see students not only engaged in the classroom, but also outside of it during what we sometimes like to call "the second shift." It is proof that a THS student's education is much broader than formal learning. The lessons that sometimes leave the deepest impression are the ones where a student learns to balance their time, make choices among many great options, accepts adversity or defeat, or understands the true meaning of teamwork in seeing a project to completion. The staff at Tuscarora is invested in your students, both inside and outside the classroom. When you see that teacher who serves as an extracurricular sponsor or coach, spending long hours away from their own family for little or no extra compensation, remember that they not only love their classroom subjects and activities. They love and want the best for your students.
Many thanks to the good people at Wawa on Ballenger Creek Pike who provided our staff with coffee and donuts this morning. This is part of their monthlong recognition of educators, which is much appreciated this year. Patronize this Wawa if you get the opportunity, and thank them for their support of THS.
With Titan Pride,
Christopher Berry
Principal
