Message From The Principal's Desk
Dear Titan Families,
Despite the challenges brought by the remnants of Ida, it has been a tremendous third week at Tuscarora. Can we really have finished three weeks before Labor Day? Students are well into their studies and routines are becoming familiar. If you have not taken the time to activate and check your Schoology account, now is the time to do just that. We are twelve days into the term, which is approximately 25% of the total days. Grades are posted and students and parents should make a point to check these regularly.
Beginning next week, we'll be offering Titan Tutoring, Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 2:15 to 4:00. Teachers in several content areas are here to work with students one-on-one, tutoring, assisting and helping them in specific classes or in general with their studying. Snacks are provided. An activity bus is provided at 4:15pm which drops students in their approximate neighborhood area (see specifics below). No appointment is necessary… just drop in and take advantage of this FREE service that is available to all Titans. Have you priced out private tutoring? This is a great resource. Have your child take advantage of it! On-line tutoring will also be back this year, with details to follow soon.
We have been granted permission to offer a two-dose student vaccine clinic on September 14/October 5 here at Tuscarora High School during the school day. Details and instructions are below in the School News section. The Frederick Health Department will sponsor the clinic, which will not be open to the public. One of the ways we have worked to make this accessible is that parents do not need to be present for the vaccine administration, but do have to schedule the appointment and fill out a consent form to be presented the day of the clinics. Students who are close contact to COVID positive individuals do not need to quarantine if they are fully vaccinated and showing no symptoms. In these and other circumstances, vaccination may make the difference as to whether you may remain in school. Please consider having your student take advantage of this opportunity!
Extracurricular activities got underway today during the Flex Block. Students examined all of the clubs and activities available to Titans, and then followed up with a live Club Fair on Main Street during all lunch shifts. It was definitely bustling! 46 Clubs and activities were part of this process. Ask your student if they found a new activity of which to be a part. And if not, families can check out the virtual Club Fair at the online link below. There really is something outside the classroom for every Titan!
https://sites.google.com/fcps.org/clubfair/home
And speaking of activities, our sports contests continue tonight with our first home football game of the year. Please consider coming out to the Titan Colosseum on this great weather night, and also supporting our young women and men on the cross country, field hockey, golf, soccer, volleyball and cheer teams at their competitions. Have a nice, long weekend, Titans!
With Titan Pride,
Christopher Berry
Principal

Keeping You Informed - School News
Titan Tutoring is BACK!
Starting Wednesday, September 8th
Mondays & Wednesday have virtual options from 3:30pm - 6:30pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays have in person tutoring opportunities. As of now, there will be no bus transportation available. See the schedule here, with links the to google meet. (The codes are listed below.)
Underclass Picture Day is Wednesday, September 8th
Due to the unexpected weather events which forced our closure on Thursday, picture passes were only just given out on Friday, September 3rd. Normally we have one or two days to take care of any potential issues with distributing the picture passes, but obviously that is not a luxury we have this year.
Many students will have received order forms in their FLEX classes. However, if a student did not receive an order form, please don’t worry. Mr. Hartman will send a Find out First in a few weeks with online ordering information for parents who wish to purchase school pictures.
If a student did not receive a picture pass, they should refer to this master schedule to figure out when they are scheduled. Additionally, Mr. Hartman will be available on Main Street at 7:00am. Wednesday morning to further assist students in either securing a picture pass or ascertaining what time their portrait is scheduled for.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Hartman at: Richard.hartman@fcps.org. Please be advised, however, that Mr. Hartman will be running the actual picture day in the auditorium from 7:45am-2:00pm and so his replies may be delayed.
The Frederick County Health Department will sponsor a free Vaccine Clinic for all unvaccinated Tuscarora High School students on Tuesday, September 14, from 8:00am - 12:00pm. Vaccines will be offered on site at Tuscarora, with a second dose scheduled on October 5 for those who receive the first on 9/14.
Parents/Guardians may consent for their student to receive this shot by (1) registering online at the link below and, (2) completing the attached consent form which must be presented on the day of the vaccination. Parents do NOT have to be present when the vaccine is administered. This vaccine clinic is NOT open to walk-ins, families or community members.
This a free and safe way to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Being vaccinated will allow student to return to school faster in most instances when they are a close contact to a positive COVID individual, rather than quarantining for many school days. Protect yourself and others, Titans!

Face Coverings Required
Frederick County Public Schools will be requiring all students and staff to wear face coverings inside our schools for the start of the 2021-22 school year. There will be no requirement to wear face coverings outdoors; however, it is strongly recommended particularly for those who are unvaccinated. The requirement to wear face coverings on school buses continues to be in effect. More detailed information about this requirement is provided in The Superintendent's Update, found at this weblink: FCPS Face Covering Details.

Titan Athletics
Fall Sports Competitions Begin TODAY!
Current Athletics MASK Policy - FCPS recommends face coverings and social distancing outside whenever attending an event on an FCPS campus. Face coverings are REQUIRED for all coaches, officials and game management staff outside, when social distance cannot be maintained. INSIDE, face coverings are required to be worn properly when not actively engaged in physical activity – this includes fans and staff. This also means student athletes must wear them on the bench, in huddles, locker rooms, etc., but may remove them upon entering the contest.
