Message From The Principal's Desk
Dear Titan Families,
Dear Tuscarora Families,
We hope your Titan student is wrapping up a good first week of the new year. It has been a week of developing routines, figuring out new technology, meeting new classmates and understanding what will be the recipe for success this year. I appreciate all of the well-wishes that you have sent to me and individual teachers about how pleased you are at the level of support our staff is providing your child. I truly have never seen a group of educators work harder at trying to "get it right." That is also not to say there haven't been and continue to be bumps in the road. The health and well-being of our students remains our first priority during the pandemic, and understanding the part that our students play in the health is important. FCPS continues to put out useful information about its ongoing response to COVID, and I would encourage you to take the time to educate yourself about these specific plans. I also appreciate hearing from parents when they have questions or concerns, and wanting to know how to correct situations that don't work. We are a community that rolls up its sleeves and works together. This "oneness" has been on full display this week.
I've been pleased thus far at the drop-off/pick-up routine of parents this year, despite a noticeable uptick in the number of families personally bringing their students to school. The message has clearly gotten out... if you come early before 7:15, you breeze in and out. If you come later, you wait. Student drivers have also been courteous and on time for the most part. Thank you for helping to start your child's day right.
The Titan Flex Block teacher tutoring got underway this week, with a number of activities designed to help students with their daily challenges, get to know their classes, and classmates. In the near future, we will be adding information about extra-curricular activities, and providing lessons on social-emotional development, especially during this pandemic. Attendance is taken in Flex Block, and we provide the morning announcements during this time.
Athletic contests begin next week. Our student athletes have been chomping at the bit to compete in earnest. I hope that you take the time to catch some of these early events, and join us a week from today for our first home football game. "Friday Night Lights" is truly one of the unique aspects of high school life, and you should come experience it for yourself.
With Titan Pride,
Christopher Berry
Principal

Face Coverings Required
Frederick County Public Schools will be requiring all students and staff to wear face coverings inside our schools for the start of the 2021-22 school year. There will be no requirement to wear face coverings outdoors; however, it is strongly recommended particularly for those who are unvaccinated. The requirement to wear face coverings on school buses continues to be in effect. More detailed information about this requirement is provided in The Superintendent's Update, found at this weblink: FCPS Face Covering Details.

Current Athletics MASK Policy - FCPS recommends face coverings and social distancing outside whenever attending an event on an FCPS campus. Face coverings are REQUIRED for all coaches, officials and game management staff outside, when social distance cannot be maintained. INSIDE, face coverings are required to be worn properly when not actively engaged in physical activity – this includes fans and staff. This also means student athletes must wear them on the bench, in huddles, locker rooms, etc., but may remove them upon entering the contest.
